No movies, only series. Only 3 or I'll vaporize you
Mine
1. Star gate universe
2. Star gate atlantis
3. Ascension
This topic is locked from further discussion.
1. The Outer Limits
2. The Twilight Zone
3. The Ray Bradbury Theater
Good choices.
Despite calling The Twilight Zone a science fiction series is a stretch, I just can't bring myself to remove it. My list is similar at:
1. The Outer Limits
2. The Twilight Zone
3. The X-Files (Not sure how I forgot this one)
Not a huge SciFi fan. The only series I've watched are The Next Generation and Voyager. Enjoyed them both, TNG a bit more so.
Ooof. Tough call.
My Top Three
1. Battlestar Galactica (new one, not the old one), because it is straight-up epic. So awesome. "This has all happened before..." muahahahahhaha
2. Stargate series (the whole thing, can't pick between SG-1, Atlantis, etc) orFirefly. Really tough for me to decide; they're both in a similar vein of corniness, lightheartedness, badassedness, and all the wonderful things I love about sci-fi. Firefly is obviously the superior one from a quality standpoint, but Stargate had so much more content, and those shows did get pretty high-quality at times too (especially Universe, the tone was much more serious)
3. X-Files, because it is from my childhood and, after watching a few episodes recently, it still is amazing. Damn that show is timeless.
Honorable mentions include:
Star Trek: TNG. Picard is straight up badass. So is Data. And Worf. And La Forge. And many others. Also spawned some fun movies, too!
Babylon 5; I was a young teen when it came out and I might have been "too cool" to get into the show, but looking back it was a really great show.
The 100; pretty cool concept, but caters a bit too much to the rebellious teen audience.
Star Wars: The Clone Wars; better than the first three movies, took me a while to get used to the animation, but overall a really enjoyable, and often deep and serious, series.
Star Wars: Rebels; same reason as above.
Question:
Speaking of Sci-Fi series, has anyone watched Dark Matter? Is it good? Pretty new show with a good rating on Netflix. Was thinking of watching it.
*same question, except for Falling Skies?
I find it hard to separate TNG, DS9, and Voyager because they were contemporaries in the same universe. I sometimes wondered what the Enterprise E (Picard) was doing during the Dominion War.
I never did see a Sovereign-class starship in DS9.
SPACE PRECINCT! Just kidding.
1. TNG
2. Battlestar Galactica (2004)
3. X-files
The Expanse is good but hasn't been on long enough for me to put it on a list yet. Seems like it could get really epic.
the expanse started of great but it seems to stall itself , in a series like star trek you could get away with this but the expanse don't seem to have a big enough lore to do that. If you can call it lore in the first place.
Star Trek: The Next Generation
The X-Files
Fringe
1. The X-Files
2. Babylon 5
3. Star Trek: The Next Generation
Twilight Zone
The X-Files
Firefly
TNG
Farscape
...couldn't pick just 3 all these are closely linked to great for me
As for all the people that choose star trek here. I always loved star trek but the series has too much nineties in them imo. Do realize that star trek tng started in 1987. That's 30 years ago. Voyager ended in 2001, which is already 15 years ago as well. We have recent star trek movies but not series and for sci fi that doesn't always work that well. It shows in the little things, like clothing, analog controls , stuff like that. Not to mention special effects. I can't wait for the new star trek series.
Same for the x files too, too old imo. I wouldn't say this about movies though. Movies are a lot shorter and have more chance to remain timeless.
Firefly is of course a great series but it's too short, it ended abruptly.
fringe and battlestar galactica is good too though.
@mrbojangles25: Dark Matter is with that man from Firefly he narrates scientific research with dramatization. It's really awesome.
Umm how about Power Rangers in Space that was pretty sci-fi
@jun_aka_pekto: First Contact (battle at the start) is directly reference d in DS9 when Sisko and Odo return to earth "The recent Borg attack", which thematically is used in the arc for a power grab. Insurrection takes place during The Dominion War and diplomatic relations is partly a reason why The Federation is pally with the baddies (if memory serves). It seems every TNG movie barring "Generations" references or has some influence from The Dominion War on the plot.
@commander:
doesn't matter if they are from the 90's. ...doesn't diminish how good they are.
Funny thing is for both TNG and X-files probably the best seasons were 2-6 or thereabouts....both shows had a few duds in those seasons but so much excellence.
Hell, Twilight Zone and original Star Trek were from the 60's, still classics, despite primitive effects.

It isn't about the fact they are from the nineties, it is that it shows, a movie like space odyssey still looks way better than tng imo.
Most of highest ranked Star Trek episodes are not about special effects but really good writing. (Duet) for example was originally designed to be a bottle episode to help with the budget. Almost all of it is like a stage play shot in a single room. The themes tend to play on universal concepts with no end of longevity.

Generations was referenced in DS9 shortly before the Klingon war with the Federation (Season 4, Episode 1) when Sisko sent for Worf.
The movie Nemesis also referenced the Dominion War when a background check on Shinzon revealed he had like 15 or so battles against the Dominion and won them all.
Just wondering because I would think Starfleet's flagship would have been more directly involved in the pitched battles against the Dominion.....Of course, by then, Voyager made it home and Janeway was an admiral.
Just once, I would like to see the main players from all three above collaborate on a movie even if Data was gone and Sisko was with the wormhole aliens. Perhaps, a mini-series, even.
1. Stargate SG1
2. Star Wars The Clone Wars (2008)
3. Firefly
Honorable mentions
Top 3, shit that's hard.
Probably: Star Trek Deep Space 9, Stargate SG1 and BattleStar Galactica (re-imagined).
Honorable mentions, Firefly, Eureka, TNG, Doctor Who.
Star Trek: The Next Generation
The X-Files
Fringe
Bought box set of fringe but after 5th episode I was board of it. Should i start again and stick with it.
Star Trek Universe But hate Enterprise (Archer) Not the actor :P
Red Dwarf New series this year yay
Star Gate entire Universe
Bought box set of fringe but after 5th episode I was board of it. Should i start again and stick with it.
What made Fringe engaging, to me, was the character Walter. If you get to the point where many of his conflictions and motivations are revealed and you're still not into it, then abandon it.
@uninspiredcup:
Archer was not very charismatic, in fact most of the cast wasn't very memorable, though Jolene Blaylock and Linda Park are hotties.
That being said Season 3 and Season 4 were very good, but by that time most of its initial viewers were gone, and it wasn't attracting more. Too bad, they had all 7 seasons mapped out, interesting stuff leading to the original series.
Off the top of my head, I've seen every single episode of...
Star Trek
Star Trek: The Animated Series
Star Trek: The Next Generation
Star Trek: Deep Space Nine
Star Trek: Voyager
Star Trek: Enterprise
The Twilight Zone
The X-Files
Firefly
Farscape
Battlestar Galactica (70s)
Battlestar Galactica (00s)
Lexx
Stargate SG-1
Stargate Atlantis
Stargate Universe
Earth 2
Sliders
Futurama
Of those, Battlestar Galactica (00s), Farscape, and The X-Files are probably my favorites.
Lexx is probably the most creative.
I have a soft spot for The Twilight Zone and enjoy re-watching it the most for its inventiveness, nostalgia and just as a historical curiosity.
@AFBrat77: I think Deep Space 9 is the only Startrek show the have all round good characters. Even characters originally designed as guest appearances like Garak developed into something infinitely more interesting than than TNGs characters. Basically without Picard or Data TNG would be shit IMO.
Never liked Voyager at all to be honest but aside from boring characters it more or less became the Seven Of Nine Show. The hologram doctor was probably the most interesting character on that show.
With Enterprise it seems they near enough wholeheartedly templated his Sam Becket over.
