I'm going to stay at a reservation casino for the first time. Played one game of blackjack in Reno, but other than that, I have no gambling experience. Do you have any tips for playing games at a casino?

Dont gamble. I created casino websites. There are almost no winners in gambling.

But if you really still want to do gambling go to sport betting exchange or play poker. Whatever you do, dont play against the house.

I like the slot machines, but if I’d be going to the casino don’t get crazy with your small winnings if you do win,The Casino Never Ends Up the Loser. Have fun though.

I like looking at roulette strategies and simulating them. I don't gamble though. I mostly like to look for strategies that employ a martingale system with a wide enough gap between min-max bets to allow for repeated failures before recovery and profit hits.

A simple example would be to bet $10 on a 1:1 outside bet payouts, say red/black, odd/even, low/high. Start at the minimum, if you lose, double each bet until you win. When you win in this system, you recover your previous losses plus the initial bet amount. Now, this works to an extent. This of course isn't full proof, with a long enough loss streak this system is thwarted by table limits on max bet.

I also do something similar with the other outside bets l, the 1:2 for low-mid-upper third bets. Except here a martingale strategy can use a 50% incremental bet adjustment to accomplish a similar outcome. Though probability of hitting a the 1:1 is 1/2, reduced to 1/3 chance on the 1:2, the 50% incremental bet adjustment allows for more plays before reaching the max bet.

But if one keeps playing, failure is a guarantee. If I got to a table with enough money to employ the tactic with successive losses until exceeding max bet, I typically find I can successful employ the strategy until about a profit of 10% on the low end before hitting a game ending losing streak, and about 50% on the high end before hitting a game ending losing streak. So, I practice to familiarize myself on conservative walk away points.

The rest is a bit of superstition. When I first started simulating, I'd just keep betting on the same 1:1 thinking it couldn't possibly miss the other end of a 50/50 successively forever, the odds have to swing back... but learned that I can't rely on that, streaks happen and go on for a while. I have a much better success chasing last outcomes, so if I bet black and it turns out red then martingale on red next. So when streaks happen I'm cashing in.

I kind of want to develop strategies that you just stick to a rule and don't break to save myself the mental torment that can lead to bad habits.

But, simulation and actual casinos could be a different beast. Some set strict limits to min-max bets and set limits to outside bet payouts where such strategies wouldn't be applicable on those tables.

I'd like to practice with low stakes at an actual casino but we've none nearby with. Most places in my area are card room casinos and the only ones wirh roulette are in reservations maybe 60-90 min drive in either direction. The biggest worry about high stakes gambling is losing a lot of money, but all the same the inability of stopping oneself from putting themselves in that position. Maybe to chase that cocaine high one gets from winning or the panic people put themselves in to recover their losses and put themselves in a bigger hole. That's the scarier aspect for me.

Blackjack.

It's social (if you go with friends), quick and to the point, and has decent odds. It's fun and interesting to play imo.

Though tbh I don't recommend gambling for very long or for very much. Take your ID and some cash, but leave your cards in the hotel room/at home.

Slot machines can be fun, but they're a money sink. Maybe play for a few minutes then leave lol.

*I'm not an expert though I've literally only been once. I went with my friend though who goes all the time and he sort of took me around to all the different games and tables, and that's what I liked best.

One word though: if you do win, even if it's only like 100 dollars, probably call it good lol. I lucked out and won 650 dollars and I was like "OK I'm done" lol. That was rent for the month.

I'm not a gambler IRL, but the only time I got addicted to gambling was in Mario Party 3 whenever I get ready betting higher rages with the Shy Guy mini games.

Gambling in a casino can be a fun experience if you don't mind losing your money. Set a budget you are okay with losing and have fun! Casinos obviously only stay in business because the statistics favor the house as time goes to infinity. If you wind up on top buy something fun!

Traditional card and table games are fun, but I wish I had spent more time with the weird electronic games I saw when I was in Vegas. I'm not a big gambler tho.

lol i did something similar with blackjack. wrote some basic simulators in perl to test various betting strategies. i like to think of it as not betting that a particular hand will win or lose, but rather betting against the odd that i'll have a long streak of losses in a row, which is mathematically unlikely, something like < 1% for 8 losing hands in a row.

the two or three times i've actually sat and played a strategy and stuck to the strategy with real money i did walk away ahead. once won like $1200 over the course of like 5 hours and another time won like $350. i understand i can't make a living with any of those strategies as the casino ultimately does have the edge and, like you said, at some point you WILL hit a crushing losing streak that can wipe away hours worth of gains in minutes. it's fun though.

I'll play a regular slot machine a little and then spend time on a penny machine.

The bar. I prefer poker games with friends. If my wife needs a little casino time, I'll park at the bar, watch some sports and have some food.

I like slot machines.
Although yes, I understand that it is impossible to win, but sometimes you want to get a little dopamine

I remember as a kid my dad calling gambling a tax on being bad at math.

He is always been kind of a jerk, but I don't think he was wrong on that one.
