It's usually all going to come down to the same reasons over and over in the long run--
1. Mainstream raps suck. Underground is better. Every song should have deep meaning to it otherwise it's not real music.
2. Eminem, Tupac, and/or Biggie are the only good rappers and everything else sucks!
3. All they rap about is money, cars, women and bling! Every other artist in the world never speaks on the same subject ever! Also real artist use instruments.
4. The random "Hey guys you know what rap stands for? "Retards Attemping Poetry" how awesomely original am I.
5. An obvious opportunity for undercover racist people to throw subliminal insults towards a genre and a community of people who love it, because it's black dominated in interest.
I don't think it's really that anyone doesn't understand--most people here just don't like rap music. Some don't due to a matter of taste, some reasons due to people generally being music elitist towards anything with mainstream exposure, and some for reasons they will never be honest about. Im sure most people could search and tell it has variety in lyrics and sound just as any other genre if they actually looked more into it. The fact that there's old school and new school gives any genre of music variety to me.
