I would...if the person is anti-abortion, anti-gay "rights", anti-big government (does not promote Welfare, Universal Healthcare, or related programs), does not believe the myth that humans are causing global warming, does not want to spitefully and needlessly shut Christianity out of American society, does not support embrionic stem cell research, does not promote Affirmative Action or the current double standard we have against white males in this country, does not ignore the fact that there are radical muslims who want to kill us, does not give 13 million illegal aliens unearned and unfair amnesty, secures our borders, and strengthens our military...sure I'd still vote for that person if he or she was an atheist.

I didn't catch the sarcasm. You can't be serious?

There is no sarcasm, I'd vote for an atheist if he shares my political views. It's as simple as that.

Why can't I be serious? Is it because my opinion differs from yours, and that somehow makes me "uneducated", "stupid", "ignorant", "intollerant", "misguided"..."wrong"? Grow up and learn to accept that you're not an elite. You're just another person out there with a set of beliefs, like me, like everyone, and it doesn't make you any more right or any better of a person.

I'd vote for him over a Christian president, if they were exactly the same on all other issues. I don't like religion being dragged into the running of our country.beat89

Of course I would. But I do wonder why certain people wouldn't - if they are Chirstian and wouldn't vote for an agnostic/athiest even if he/she was the best choice I would

I actually thought you were being sarcastic because your political views really seem to fit the typical "neo-con" stereotype. It's probably more likely that someone in these forums would really be acting sarcastic if they typed what you just did than somebody actually being sincere. Given most people on these forums are either liberals or middle of the road centrists.

Notice how I didn't take any cheap shots, or call you "uneducated", "stupid", "ignorant", "intollerant", "misguided"..."wrong," because of your beliefs. That was all in your head. I asked a simple question because your response sounded a little sarcastic in my head. However, your need for a hostile response to defend your beliefs only reenforces my belief that most of your opinions on this topic are wrong.

Oh by the way, thanks for giving me a laugh with the last 7 words of your post. Statements of fact are right or wrong, opinions are not.

Actually, Rythmic, it is not at all weird that he thought your post was sarcastic. This is the internet. Your post sounded like the exact opposite of most internet goers (the vocal ones) beliefs. Also, he said he BELIEVED your opinions were wrong, which means it is his opinion. Therefore his statement is in compliance with your last statement. He believes you are wrong, he never said you were.

Check your eyes maybe? Or practice your critical reading skills? How the hell do you know that I knew you were serious? This is a gaming forum and sometimes it is hard to distinguish sarcasm from meritable thought. The last 7 words of my response were MY opinion and would be evident if you would include the previous 5 words and not practice selective reading.

I would vote for an agnostic president but not an atheist. Even though it is a generalization I'd bet the atheist would have as many or more hidden agendas then an openly and devout religious president.

I'd vote for a hermaphrodite, a gay a black, a white, a straight, a rich, a poor, an Atheist, a Buddhist, a Muslim, a Christian, an Agnostic, a Deist, an ex Heroin addict(Key word, ex), a trans-gender(Not same as the first thing), a young person, an old one, a Mexican immigrant, a French one, a Latino, a German immigrant, a Bisexual, a Jew, and of course, a person with no legs... See how respectful I am of people. Others need to also, stop basing people off of trivial things like a theistic standpoint. I sometimes feel like I am the only that practices what he preaches.

I agree 100% which is why I made this thread to bring out the bigotry with responses such as "No because he/she isn't religious," or "Yes, because he/se isn't religious." I am agnostic, I can't stand Christians, but I would still vote for one if their political views matched my own. However, I would draw the line if their religious views somehow got tied up with their political decisions.

Well, I'm perfectly fine with Christians, I'm perfectly fine with all religious people that don't try to rape and murder people, and steal, stuff like that. But yes, I would vote for anyone that's belief didn't denote those kind of things.

You're a better man that I am, then. I don't like Christians because of some bad experiences with them in my childhood. I wouldn't have a problem with them otherwise.

If he emphasized his religion I would question him because he shouldnt be talking about his beliefs he should be talking about politics. If the question you are asking is do I care about religion in politics. No I do not.

That's an extreme example, though, but I see your point.

I sometimes feel like I am the only that practices what he preaches. wemhim

They would have to redesign the podium and everything.

Hell yeah I would. We shouldn't judge our politicians on such trivial means as religion, race, or sex.

Presidents are legally, not religiously, sworn in. They may use a bible in most cases, but there's nothing saying they have to. The atheist could just swear on the constitution (which, imo, should be the norm). Besides, its not like the agnostic believes in God either, so (s)he couldn't be sworn in using a bible either.

I'd vote for an existentialist or post-modernist/quantum physics philosopher president who would stick word by word to his agenda.

Honestly, modern Satanism is more related to existentialism and epicureanism than anything else. LaVey adopted the name for the philosophy's similarities with some of Satan's (just a few) qualities as described in biblical texts, but even more so for shock value, and making people upset, which it seems to still be capable of doing.

I'd vote for a president who is solid in their beliefs.
