I don't know that age is relevant. Does he like scary/ish movies? Age aside, if so, he may enjoy it.

I'm a dad, and found Dunkirk extremely boring. My 12 year old, and his cousin somehow chose to see Dunkirk, terrible selection. I would have rather seen IT. Just fyi
I have an "old dad" (he is in his 70's) and he loved Dunkirk. I guess it is really accurate in it's depiction, has very little CGI (they actually got real WWII planes and put cameras on them, no fake film there)...and if you see it in IMAX it was filmed in 65mm or 75mm or something like that so the actual resolution is like 18k, suck it digital/4k/George Lucas.
As for IT, I imagine an "old dad" would like the childhood aspects of it; it takes place during the 60s or 70s doesn't it? So there might be some nostalgia to it. But at the same time, it's a horror movie and I don't think that really appeals to a lot of older people. Horror movies back in the day seemed like something you saw on a date to get your girl to snuggle up with you, not so much something to really enjoy like they are now.
But...I have heard is genuinely a really good movie, so I think anyone with an open mind, an appreciation for good film, and a tolerance for fright, would find it entertaining. You never know.
Difference between It (movie) and It (TV miniseries):
Normally I'd advise to stay away from It since horror can be kind of a niche thing. But on the other hand, war movies can cause a lot of people to be upset too. So without having seen either movie, I wouldn't expect either one to really be a "safe choice for everyone" kind of movie.
Have you considered simply ASKING him what movie he wants to see?

Strange question.
Go see it and discover it for yourself, if nothing else you will learn something new :)
