Do you agree?
This is why we laugh at America.
America used to been a good place to live from the 90s til 2008. It just went downhill from then, I am thinking of moving to Norway :) .
She is right on her initial point, a democratic government should not force people to wear something they don't want or can't afford to wear. That's called discrimination.
Are face masks lethal? No certainly not.
Do people need face masks? No certainly not, given that you know how to keep your distance from people, have knowledge of basic personal hygiene and know how to behave as a normally functional human being (like not licking the pavement and stuff for example).
My dad almost died because of using a mask. It blocks oxygen to the face. So, my dad couldn't get enough oxygen. Then, he had a heart attack.

Wrong.
Society can and does create requirements for the good of society...…..that includes those that are democracies. If you don't want to wear a mask it's simple...…..stay the eff home. It's not discrimination either. I suggest some study on what that word entails.
Personal hygiene has absolutely nothing to do with passing the virus to others because one is a selfish, self entitled ass hat.

If you want the country to open up, you will not be able to social distance. Masks allow you to do that. Also, masks are not an example of discrimination against the poor; if you can force poor people to wear clothes in public, you can force them to wear masks. Both are basic decency that is good for everyone.

Well I truly believe that you can change a society to work seamlessly even in a situation like this. However there are lots of different obstacles that need to be figured out before that happens. And I'm not just talking about people's entitled attitudes that lead them to overstep in terms of social distancing regulations.
I'm just thinking about my own experiences here. When I usually bump into people is when I enter or exit a building. So if every building had separate entrances and exits located away from each other. Then I think we could achieve a big difference! And I know there's so much more we could do to make things work!
I do see your point about a face mask being a part of one's apparel, but I don't agree with it. Face masks that actually filter out particles as small as the corona virus are not washable and the truth of the matter is, when you once have taken the mask off, it won't protect you as good the next time you put it on. So even if they were washable, you'd still have to bring like 10 masks with you every day everywhere. and when you take off that mask you have to put it in a sterile container like a plastic bag, so you'll always have to bring that with you wherever you go as well.
What I'm trying to say is: That's very different from putting on a jacket and going outside. It's still a short term consumable product which ever way you put it. And it is going to cost a lot of money for everyone. Maybe it's more closely related to deodorant... Anyway I just think that is messed up, life shouldn't have to be that difficult in the future. Face masks are like a patch on a wound or sweeping the dust under a rug. It's not sustainable from my point of view...
@kriggy: Thank you for the thorough response. However, I don't believe that simply because masks are not 100% foolproof, it doesn't mean they are not worth wearing. There may always be a risk with everything, but I think you would agree it's important to lower that risk significantly rather than just ignore the threat simply because it may be inconvenient. I agree there are many ways to maintain safety while opening up, and they should all be pursued, but masks are a clear and easy way to do it with no real downsides to the vast majority of the population. It's a no brainer.
