Yes, but look at all the great things that came from the video, the differences were huge. I actually miss the old days without the intranets. Playing outside, going to the park more. Meeting people, and getting together more. I have actually taken my family off facebook just so we get together more, and talk more. Because when you know everyone's everything already, there's not much to say.

I don't think I could live without it at this point, but it has brought about some negative changes.

- A lot of jobs have been lost

- People are less connected than ever.

- It's given a platform to a lot of dumb people such as Anti-vaxers or the fat acceptance movement.

- I've seen the creation of hate sanctuaries like tumblr which produce and spread a lot of bigotry.

NOOO!!

K, I'm just lying. Internet's good fam. I'd probably be happier without it but definitely not as knowledgeable as I am right now because of the internet.

I've come to love the Internet in the same way that Winston came to love Big Brother.

In most ways, it was much more enjoyable before the internet, the 80's were a great decade here in America without looking at it with rose-tinted glasses. The 70's were fun as well, I remember as a boy in summer being outside from dawn to dusk playing army, baseball, kickball, football, catching salamanders and crayfish in the creek, and just talking outside with my friends til night, only interrupted by my mom calling me for dinner and setting me up at the card table to watch the original Star Trek and sometimes Ultraman. Back out after dinner.

80's were great, dancing and meeting random girls at any club, not knowing who would be there, a good thing. Ah Prince, I knew his music well.

I feel like I have to keep up with everyone with this technology, and I don't see it nearly as fun these days. Internet is good for looking things up, playing Diablo 2 with my sister, and sharing ideas with people you don't know, it's a shame people are so addicted to it and cell phones.

I don't see what's stopping anyone from doing any of those things now. I can't think of anything that the internet has taken away, all it's done has been to give people a lot of other great stuff should they want it.

Oh it has, its made kids loose their imagination because all they have to do is look stuff up. I mean ask any 11 year old, or around that age group when was the last time they played basketball at a park, or bike rode with friends after school. Then ask them when was the last time they were on their phone looking at you tube videos. I bet most of them will have watched videos and wasted their day. Maybe kids should be limited to internet, so that they have to do other stuff ?

When info was limited, we played in & vandalized construction sites for amusement and people activly used the N-word.

Yeah, I don't miss it.

Times do change. The internet is simply an amazing thing and with the internet comes great responsibility. You need to know your boundaries, how far you can go using it. If you don't see family and friends that's your own fault. You should know when to call it quits and go see them, hang out with them.

I need to stress the fact that the Internet does not provide any service or comfort at all, everything you see soley exists to gather informations about your real life and to evacuate your wallet and bank accounts ... better not get used to it ...

That's their fault, not the internet's fault. If they're not playing ball or riding their bikes, that's because they don't want to play ball or ride their bikes.

Nah, I was born in 1987, so I lived a good deal of my life without the internet. It wasn't that different. When I was younger, and I would ask my dad something, he would say "look it up" so I would go to the library and find a book about the topic. Then, after the internet came, he would say "Look it up" I would only have to go to the internet, much quicker. Granted people have problems with the internet, but people also have problems with cheeseburgers. Does not mean cheeseburgers are bad. If the internet makes your life so bad, maybe it's your fault in where you put your attention..........

@Jacanuk: Life in general is most definitely better with the internet. It brings more information to so many people around the world. It gives people who never had a way before to make their voices heard. It brings people across large distances closer together and makes the world a smaller and closer place.

With Geocaching I actually use the internet to get outside for some interesting activities. Also we wouldn't get anywhere near the innovation from the general populace without the internet and the way it lets us share our ideas so easily.

Also with places like this I get to talk to people I never would have who have very different backgrounds from myself. It honestly gives me a better perspective and has helped my put myself in other people's shoes in ways before I joined forums such as these. I don't know if the internet is the sole cause of this honestly as just growing up probably helps with this. That being said I know many people who are on the internet such as facebook, but remain in their own little bubble. When a situation arises for other people that is radically different from anything they have ever personally experienced that they can't manage put themselves in someone else's place to better understand it. People who spend a lot of time in forums like this appear to (eventually) be better able to do this sort of thing. It's situations like this that have the potential to make the world a better place.

My job would be borderline impossible without access to the internet. Haven't used a language in 3 years? Touch luck, drive to the library and borrow a book if your syntax is close but not quite there. Need to cobble together some previous concepts to combine them into a new algorithm? Buckle down, you'll be recreating each of those pieces from scratch.

It's really hard to quantify just how much more efficient the internet has made us. It's practically a step or two away from a hive mind.

If we didn't have Internet as we know it, we'd still have BBSes. They were already widespread back in the late 80's. More and more games were also adding modem to modem multiplayer.

I lived it. I left school in 96 so no one even had mobile phones or cell to you Americans. Bullying would have been a lot worse and probably is to some now using social media. I did get bulled at school but not as much as some people but still it was hard. If I had facebook etc it would have been a lot worse. Even face book now is popularity contest and the people what bulled me at school when I got face book and started to add friends what didn't bully me even wanted to be friends now. No I didn't accept them either as they didn't want to be friends at school so why now.

I admit I couldn't do with out the internet now. I don't watch TV from a Arial or sky any more even though we have it I watch more things from Netflix, amazon prime and 360p youtube vids and music. :P

just the ease of finding information now is well worth it.

shit google alone is processing like 91M searches a DAY. absent the internet, only a tiny fraction of those queries could have been addressed.

not to mention that the internet allows humans to communicate well beyond they're local bubble of people they see in person, people who potentially have VASTLY different life experiences that they would have not otherwise met. that much sharing of different ideas/viewpoints can only be a benefit to mankind in the long run.

I graduated in '94 (the music that summer, OMG...) and it amazes me when people say they're bored these days. You've got countless video games, half of which you've barely played, a gazzilion movies at your fingertips, all the things the internets bring, you can take a walk while talking to your best friend on your phone...

We grew up with an 8-bit game console, never more than half a dozen games at one time, a 13-inch TV, 4 broadcast channels and VHS rentals. And we weren't fucking bored. >:-[

Hmm, i see your point but to be fair i do not see any benefits.

And let´s not forget cyberbulling, anti-vaxers, etc. etc. etc that has come as a result of the internet.
