mix bag, superficially it's just a new coat of paint, but there are alot of new features you don't even notice at first. Also as software is developed specifically for it we'll see how good it really is.
Quite frankly I didn't really need XP but 2k and 98 we're no longer being supported (also ME was a hunk of crap).
Vista is a piece of sh!t. It's a system hog version of XP with a shiny new coat. If you want DX10 gaming without Vista however, I would keep my eye on XSOS. Its being developed by a team who is working closely with M$ to make a free DX10 alternative to Vista.
it need to much hardware, 512mb or ram just to run the OS, its prob worth it, if you want to be a puppet for ms for a few months to help with flaws, id wait till a system update has been released 1st to hhave more security,

Thats like saying XP is NT or 2000 with a new coat... System hog, well thats what some felt about XP. I guess learning from history is not what you do best.
Who knows, but im sticking with XP for a long time to come.
I think it lies in that XP still to this day is a pretty good OS, and back when xp came out it was easy to go with xp if you had that crappy me, today xp is great and its difficult to see why one should go and get vista when you only are getting a slower computer. New security stuff, well to be honest if havent had any secuirty problems with xp since i bought it. And it looks like vista does a lot of stuff for noobs, and personally i like ME to operate windows and not windows to tell me what to do.
I've got Vista Ultimate edition and, I like it. It eats like 600 mb RAM but I've got 1,75gb so it's ok. Alot of appz however do not work and, so you'll have to wait for new versions of you favourite programs before u can use them in vista.
