If you like Vista, then stick with it. Don't upgrade simply for the sake of upgrading. If your current OS is working well, then keep it. :)

It uses half the RAM, runs smoother, is more compatible, none of the glitches...the list goes on. It's literally better in every single way.

Sounds like XP going on all that :P. Im thinking of getting Windows 7 for my wifes laptop, dont get me wrong it does fine on vista but if windows 7 gives it a boost in gaming it cant be a bad idea.

Yeah. When I start up my PC, my RAM usage sits at about 40%, and I have 4GB. Vista is a hog.

This. Plus a highly improved preview feature, Jump Lists, it's everything Vista should have been and more.

The main one I've had a problem with is Aero crashing randomly. There were also a bunch of others, but those I managed to find a solution for.

You do know that 7 has a higher ram requirement than vista?

How does it use less ram then?

It only uses 500mbs on average as opposed to 1gb for Vista.

*does a google search*

*finds nothing informative*

I was just asking because I never had glitches with Vista other than compatibility issue with remote devices such as mp3 players.

Anyway nvm.

wrong, 7 needs less RAM in general. Vista for me was 2GB or more on occasion, and 7 is 1.5 up to 2GB after heavy use.

Gambler_3

The official requirements are exactly the same (1 GB). And in every test I've seen it showed that Vista needed more than that to run smoothly, while 7 ran fine under that limit. :?

It only uses 2GB if you have 4GB or more. It's basically for caching as what I have heard and it only uses as much ram as is available. When you run a ram intensive application then it frees up that ram. I know I went from 2 to 4GB and my idle ram usage also increased..

Windows 7 64-bit has a minimum requirement of 2GB whereas vista only needs 1GB...

I havent seen any tests but you simply cant say that it needs less resources when it clearly has higher requirements...

Gambler_3

It's probably more than likely the change of 1GB to 2GB was because people with the minimum requirements with Vista 64-bit had trouble running it since the RAM usage of 64-bit is higher than 32-bit.

It's better to overestimate minimum requirements than underestimate them. And it doesn't negate the fact that in every actual test I've seen Windows 7 is faster and uses less RAM than Vista.

It doesn't USE 2gb though. That's how much you comp needs to still run with it.

i know vista uses more ram when you have more available. Vista used 1GB when i used to have 2. And 7 doesnt need 2GB. My friend runs it on his laptop perfectly fine, and that only has 1GB of memory. Vista on my sisters laptop however is apalling, and her laptop has 1GB of RAM.

I like Vista, I feel no need in switching. If you are happy with Vista, you don't have to switch.
