I drink Whey protein, eat cottage cheese, eat 2 eggs (a day), eat meat such as ground beef and ham, and every hour I eat something such as a banana or drink milk.

I want to know if I keep this up along with lifting weights, if I will get more muscular.

Also I get 8-10 hours of sleep a night.

Your muscles hurting the next day, your strength isn't increasing, etc.

Overtraining, or "killing" your muscle fibers occurs when you overexert yourself during workouts. When you build muscle, you are breaking down muscle fibers so that your body will repair them when you rest. If you work too hard, then the muscle fiber is effectively "killed" and your body must build an entirely new fiber instead of just repairing an old one, which takes more time. If this happens, following your workout you will feel sore as though you have just finished a good session, but later you will notice that you gained no added strength from that seemingly "good" workout.

Oh, and if you are serious about your eating habits, and you go to the gym regularly and do your exercises PROPERLY, I have no doubt in my mind you will gain mass, strength, and maintain a cut look. Others might suggest creatine to speed up mass gain and hemodilaters to quicken recovery and give your workouts added intensity (the new Nano Vapor does both well I am told), but if you are just starting to lift I would wait a while before trying some -- maybe a couple of months.

Then according to you, its hard to tell whether you had a "good" workout or a "seemingly good" workout. How can you tell?

It's rather difficult to overtrain when you are just starting, hoop, so if you are about to begin working out you won't have to worry about it for a while. Right now your muscles are probably in such a ripe state for growth that I'd be suprised if you could overdo it.

Anyway, I never said it was hard to tell when you've overdone it. Experienced lifters should know at what point they can begin increasing the weights on each set of exercises, and if an experienced lifter is wrong, hten that hints at killing some muscle fiber.

Mike, you're making a very poor statement. So long as he mixes in low weight/high rep days of lifting with aerobic exercises (such as running and something like basketball) in addition to his mass/strength workouts, there is no reason he can't maintain muscle definition.

How can eating every single hour of the day along with maintaing what looks to be a high fat diet be benefitical to becoming defined.

And he didn't say anything about cardio. He just said he would be lifting weights. I agree if he were to add cardio and possibly add some lean protein into his diet he could become defined as well (I am assuming that he does not currently have much muscle definition.)

Yeah, see I assumed you were not. yeah, like I said before I think with the addition of regularcardio you could definitely keep your definition by using this diet over an extended period of time.

I am 127 lbs and about 5'8" so yeah I dont have much bodyfat

I max out on flat bench at about 100 lbs and I can barbell curl 50lbs max (when I say max I mean 1 rep)

My goal is to whiegh around 150-160 lbs and bench 150 lbs+
I also do squats and lat pull down.

For cardio I wrap my hands up properly and hit my 80lbs heavy bag.

Any suggestions? I am insecure about my methods mainly because I am new at this. I just turned 17

At 5'8" your body should be able to maintain a very cut lookto at least 170 lbs depending on your genes. As for cardio,I would suggestmuch more if you plan on eating what you have listed. Get in at least 10 miles a week, and try to get in some other sports in your spare time. Keeping active will keep your body fat down.

Also, don't be afraid to ask guys at the gym for help. They're usually very willing, and a lot of thoseintimidating guys are generally very nice. If you work out at home, nothing is stopping you from looking up information on the Internet.

I won't touch the egg subject, but on a personal note I do eat them quite frequently.

You're probably a hard-gainer (you eat and eat and eat but don't really gain weight) I'm guessing. If I were you, and everybody differs obviously, I would just jack up my food intake like it looks like you're doing.maybe 2 or 3 days of working out and a day off and just keep at it. Try and intake about 200 grams of protein daily. I'd still recommend spreading the meals out to maybe 3 hours apart. Maybe 5 meals daily of around 500 cals because you're a hard gainer. See if you can take that and just go from there.

As for maybe some supplemental help you could take some BSN NO Xplode before you work out and whey after you workout, or double up on whey before and after your workouts (that's what I do). There's also this stuff called Muscle Milk which I was takin' for awhile which has about 350 cals in a serving and it tastes great (if you don't like the tase of the whey protein shakes). You could take that about30mi. - hour before your workout and then take the whey after.

If you're just starting to workout and your sore I woulnd' tworry aboutd oing cardio on the days when your weight training. It can just be too much sometimes

EDIT: One last tip before I go to bed here

I saw that you liked cottage cheese, and you sleep about 8-10 hrs a night. That's a long time to go w/o having any nutrients for your body. You should eat like a cup of cottage cheese before you go to bed (and maybe even like 1/2 serving of sunflower seeds also or peanuts, or almonds, somethign like that). Because the type of protein in cottage cheese, is called caesin protein, and it's a slow digesting protein, which is good for eating before you to bed because it can provide protein to your body and keep it out of a catabolic state while sleeping (thats a state where your body is actually using muscle to get what it needs in terms of nutrients) Anyways I'm outta here. G/L, hope it works for ya!

You don't have to lift all muscle groups at the same time. I generally split my workouts into three groups: biceps/back, triceps/chest, and shoulders/legs. That way I can continue to get in other exercise since my entire body isn't aching.

Also, the NO Explode Mike suggested is a good recovery tool. What it does is increase the size of your veins and arteries, allowing more blood to flow. Not only will this increase the pump you get when you work out, but also it will increase your stamina and by bringing more blood to the muscles, allow them to recover so you're not as sore the next day.

This probably seems like a lot to tackle all at once--and it is. Mike just mentioned that you don't have to cardio on the days you work out, at least not yet. I would agree with this statement. At your current weight and height, his suggestion is probably a very good one.

Mr_Arkansas

How big are you (how much do you lift ect.)?

Also is the 3 day 3 groups routine working for you?

Instead of taking odd stuff like NO Explode to make the veins bigger, can I just do more cardio?

I am concerned about strange things like No explode because my friend took creatine for a while and had to have kidney stones removed (he is my age).
