Because all people have the right to read/hear/watch news and 50% don't want to hear the f word in the news because it has no real definition and is really just a swear word, rape is an actual term that is used to refer to sexual intercours where a 1 personis unwilling. A country is not backwards because of silly little complaints like 'oh how come we can't say f*** in church' or 'why isn't there more sex than violencein video games'.

newhenpal

we're backwards because we rant about minutia claiming to be "protecting the children" and accept violence as second nature. if a word has no definition, then how can it at all be offensive?? might as well say that the word "skuto" is offensive and should now be regarded as utterly vulgar.

Because the f-word is used in a more offesive fashion, and there are other words that can be used in in stead, as you said, rape describes an act of violence...there are no other adequate substitutions that I can think of.

what can possibly be more offensive than saying something like "i'm gonna rape that girl" yet it is acceptable? and if the argument is that a word is offensive and there are other substitutes that one can use.. then why not only have one word to describe each thing? why have a language cluttered with multiple words to describe the same thing?

What? People use that in the same context that they use the f-word...I was referring to it being said publicly, like on the news, you never hear "I'm gonna rape that girl" on the news....

well, you dont hear "i'm gonna shoot that guy" either on the news... but both phases are prefectly accpetable on tv and neither will warrant an fcc fine, or a barage of hate mail from the parents television council.

stop being offended because other people say you should be.

They are "perfectly acceptable" because they are not taboo, as I said before, there are other things you can use besides the f-word to get the exact same point across. And no one does not understand what the bleeping out means, there are just plenty of people like me who would prefer not to to hear vulgar terms like the f-word every time I turn on the tv.

but why do you consider it vulgar? like you said, it has no meaning. so are you offended by words with no meaning? is it the sound that offends you? or have you just been brought up being told that it is offensive so you naturally react with disgust when you hear it?

Because ever since anyone was a kid, it was used only for being nasty, and only had negative connotations. It is offensive. Every language has that. Why bother having any variations in language, if you can't have words that have negative meanings?

Stop acting like a little child, yes go ahead and say **** and you will get diffrent results because some people have heard it so much that it doesn't bother them, but keep in mind others will. Your question was why they say rape and not **** in news, well as I and you have said,it has no meaning (which is strange because in your first post you said it ment to have sex, you contridicted yourself there buddy). Rape means actually means something and people get raped and it is (or should be) local or national news' jobto report on this, which as I have said people read and some of them don't like the f word and why bother saying **** instead of rape when people will be offended at the f word, and rape is much more specific. Last time I checked most news networks aren't pornnews and will almost always report violence because that is usually what happens in the world, I don't think people are interested inwhat positionjimmy ****ed stacy, the only thing you will find close to sex in news is surprise, surprise....rape.

I guess when the girls come onto talk shows they don't want to let the viewer's mind wander.

No joking, here. What would happen if a girl (It generally happens to girls over guys, right?) was on a talk show and it went:

Girl: I was -*Bleep sound*ed.

C'mon, is it not obvious?! In Western society today, sex is still considered taboo, yet violence is not. This is simply because most people are uncomfortable with their own sexuality, most likely because they are ugly weirdo's and can't cope with being ignored by popular aesthetically-biased media outlets. Therefore they seek to prove their worth by other means such as oppressive force, thus violence is acceptable...

the F word is imbued with more meaning than just sexual intercourse. it means a variety of things, and is usually added to elevate the intensity of a claim and to make it taboo intentionally. it's there as a function of language and pulls any given claim into the realm of obscenity by it's nature and is therefore censorable.

"rape" is a word that describes a violent pillaging, not stricly sexual. it is not a function of language, it does not cast the words around it in a different light. it is a word--a nasty word, yes, for nasty things. but it doesn't carry the intentionality of obscenity that the F word does.

at least that's part of it.

It's simple. Gamespot endorses rape. Placing value on words in purely a human construction, and some people don't understand that.

Eh? "Rape" is a legal term, for one thing; it identifies a very real violation of people's rights, and while it should not be used lightly, it is not inherently obscene. The eff-word is.

You should realize that the connotations of words are determined largely by common usage. People use the eff-word disrespectfully as a coarse vulgarity. They do not generally do so with "rape."

that is what he is saying. It doesn't have to be but the common use of the words is blank, there fore it gets teh connotation of blank.
