Because he died, plain and simple. He wasn't anything too unique or special out of that time period. 2pac dying was the best thing that could have happened to his career.

I think that Em right now is better than Pac(when he was alive of course) but its silly to deny that Pac was a great rapper, and the impact his lyrics had on people.

Eminem has stated many times that 2pac was his greatest idol. Even Eminem would scoff at the very thought that he's better than 2pac.

There was nothing revolutionary about Pac. But that doesn't matter he was extremely good at what he did and will always be the greatest.

Me Against the World was a huge album and it was released before his death. It was the #1 album in the US for a month. It's not like he was struggling to get on the charts before his death; he was one of the biggest names in music even before he died.

2pac was shot like four times in an attempted robbery...He walked out of the hospital with his IV's still on and went to jail like the next day Then he was shot again like three times... 50 Cent was shot many times but in harmless places like his cheek, foot, arm, etc.

Eminem hasn't been nearly as influential as Tupac...every hip/hop rap lover understands how good tupac is. And same with Eminem, but Tupac is an icon, he was the original rapper. Eminem was the best white rapper...some would argue Em is more influential to white people..

Why does it matter who you influence? Personally I think Tupac is better, but your post is just messed up. Eminem is liked by MANY black people and he is not only the best white rapper ever he's defintiely top 5 best rappers ever.

One of my favorite songs by Tupac and Nas... Beautiful song... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kOiI6zIZXP8

eminem is no doubt a better lyricist than 2pac, but pac is no doubt a better song writer than em. eminem hasn't released anything worthwhile in over 8 years, pac was releasing great material until the day he died. 2pac is not a top 10 mc imo (either is em), but the poetic nature and beauty of a lot of his songs put him into a special place in hip hop history. dude was more of a poet than actual mc.

Honestly I can't really idolize or appreciate anyone from the gang culture. But that's just me. People like him because for his time, he was doing things that no one else was for that genre. But now? He's just been stripped, repackaged, and sold in various facets, beating every dollar out of a dying market. People are disgusting.

He was great but I do think he is over-rated As regards to eminem , although he is a great rapper, he has pretty much whored himself out to being as commercial as possible.Rap music for the Rap cusuals. IMO the best rapper ever is Nas, he not only has the best lyrics, but he has the best beats. Illmatic and God's son !!!

Tupac was in the game when the game was just starting, and he was able to express his life and the life of the streets in a way that not a single other rap artist has ever been able to do. he's not my fav rap artist, but he is thought of as being the greatest ever by the masses for a reason. his albums were always great, and with releasing five albums (4 of which have gone platinum) is a triumph that not many rappers can claim. he was a ladies man, a thug and a poet all at the same time. Em is great, and he spits lyrics like no other, but it's not all about rapping. it's about connecting to the audience...creating movements that ppl will follow...and Em just hasn't been able to duplicate this. yes Em has changed the game, but not to Tupac standards. pay respect tc to the great Tupac because he deserves it.

Rap is making music, but HipHop is a lifestyle...and the younger kids listening to Rap don't realize the difference. hell, many older ppl get this idea misconstrued. so if you claim that an artist is making hiphopyou are naive because you don't make hiphop - you live it.

i agree 100%, nas is VERY hit or miss with his beat selection. illmatic was flawless and even it was written was very consistent but something happened after that.

Que???!!? Nas is my favorite rapper so this definitely has a ton of bias in it, but whats wrong with NAs beats? I don't care what he says because honestly I think his best albums were actually after Illmatic. Coming from a Nas fan that means a lot I think. Illmatic was decent to me, but I thought he got better with every album.

[QUOTE="scottiescott238"] IMO the best rapper ever is Nas, he not only has the best lyrics, but he has the best beats. Illmatic and God's son !!!lazerface216

I'm a huge Nas fan, but even he admitted that he doesn't have the best beats. After Illmatic, his beat selection has been really suspect.

i agree 100%, nas is VERY hit or miss with his beat selection. illmatic was flawless and even it was written was very consistent but something happened after that.

I am heart broken

Que???!!? Nas is my favorite rapper so this definitely has a ton of bias in it, but whats wrong with NAs beats? I don't care what he says because honestly I think his best albums were actually after Illmatic. Coming from a Nas fan that means a lot I think. Illmatic was decent to me, but I thought he got better with every album.

i have to disagree with you my friend. nas has never come close to what he accomplished with illmatic. illmatic is the definitive hip hop record, flawless in almost every way from production to lyricism. it's 36 minutes of pure hip hop, no skits or filler at all. nas has never been able to achieve that passion and hunger he had on illmatic and i can understand that seeing that he was in a totally different place, both mentally and physically, when it was released.
