Why Do Female Gamers Get Treated Differently Than Their Male Counterparts?

i hope none of the girls here were ever asked for explicit photos. this one guy on steam asked a girl i know for some pictures. we were weirded out by it.

but other than that, most of the guys i play with treat girls just fine.

I don't think I get treated differently.

I could really care less. I'm probably more of a gamer than some boys. :P

I have over 400 games and counting. And many consoles.

Times change though.
I don't think there is really that much different treatment anymore.
It depends what people You put up with.
If You pay attention a lot of boys get a hard time online as well.
The people who are bad are much more present than the people who are nice. But there are many more nice people than bad people.

I remember playing with a friend of mine on XBL. I used to lol like mad when she used to put down all the 13-16 year olds for giving her lip. She was lethal at COD4 and Halo3.

When I be revealed to be female, they didn't go easy. But then again it was the first time I'd ever played CoD and I would have got pwned even if they were going easy on me :)

When playing a game, I often avoid letting on that I'm female because it tends to become a distraction. If I really want to talk on voice chat, I will, but if I don't have anything to say, then I won't just talk for the sake of talking because I don't want people to bug me about being a girl. It's happened before and it gets annoying. I think a lot of male gamers just get excited that there's a female who shares a hobby with them...and sometimes the preteen boy gamers like to just be annoying.t3hrubikscube

Every man is afraid to lose in anything to a girl. They have to grow out of it by the time they realize it's stupid. Bad thing is, most don't. It probably has something to do with how the man is the physically stronger sex, and to men being strong physicality is and important rank to have. They lose to someone physically "lesser" , they are afraid to admit it.

That's why people still call gaming a kid's passtime. Most of us are nothing but immature kids.

Also, never underestimate the stupidity of the human mind.

None taken. I see your point and it is indeed valid. Though, a lot of boys I know accept me, and even consider me friends I guess, because I love video games. They are also weaker than I am though. :P

Female gamers are kind of like Legendary Pokemon, they get so much attention simply by virtue of the fact that they are "Legendary." People tend to overlook the fact that they are generally weird and vastly overrate their own skills.

To date, I've never lost to a female gamer, even when I go easy on them.

You shouldn't judge others by their appearances or your own preconceptions. Whether it be male or female, I won't lose.

I've played more than 400, but 400 is all I own. :P My cousins are too greedy to let me have some of their games though. :x It's funny how I give them one, but they always buy me something I already have. So, I sell it and use the cash to buy a new game. :lol:

The ones that get treated differently want to be treated differently. The female gamers that get a lot of attention pretty much bring it on themselves. If they didn't want attention, they wouldn't be advertising the fact that they're a girl at every opportunity.

It must be a difference of attitude I guess. I get enjoyment out of competition and the thrill of a challenge. I am of the opinion that if I lose at something, it's not because the other person was too good, but that I wasn't good enough at that time. Again, it must be a difference in attitude. I find competition exhilarating. If someone challenges me, it's almost like picking a fight. I don't settle for anything but the best, whether it be in gaming, academics, tennis, etc. I don't really care about proving who I'm better than. I was just stating a simple fact that I'm better than the people whom I play.

And about going easy on you...I've noticed that bad things tend to happen when I use 100% of my potential. People have started crying, deleted their accounts, and have quit gaming when I don't hold back.

well the stereotypical gamer guy doesn't get a lot of interaction with girls, so when they do interact with one over xbox live, they're not really sure what to do, so their brain kinda goes squirly
