Since most NFL QBs have been white, and most people who judge the "greatest" at the QB position almost invariably name a white QB, I want to make the debate a bit more interesting. Let's take Brett Favre, Dan Marino, Peyton Manning, Joe Montana, etc, etc.. out of the picture and limit the discussion to black QBs. Who do you think has been the greatest so far?

My personal pick is Donovan McNabb. He has been selected to 5 or 6 Pro Bowls, holds most (if not all) major Philadelphia Eagles passing records, takes care of the ball far better than most QBs (2nd or 3rd on the all-time list in terms of fewest INTs per pass attempt). He has been to multiple NFC championship games, and a Super Bowl.

A VERY close 2nd for me is Warren Moon. He had amazing longevity, and put up some very strong seasons in the middle of his career. In some ways I put him ahead of McNabb, but Donovan is more mobile, so I give him the edge.

What do you think?

Doug Williams actually won a Superbowl.

I'd say him, although Warren Moon is a close second and Randall Cunningham is 3rd.

McNabb was just a good system QB. Vick is just a gimmick.

Doug Williams won a Super Bowl, but he didn't have anywhere near as good a career as McNabb. Picking him over McNabb is like saying that Trent Dilfer was better than Dan Marino because he won a SB and Marino didn't.

You know my reasons for not picking Warren Moon. I didn't even mention that he threw WAY too many INTs to be considered. Cunningham is a legitimate choice, but he was never quite as good as McNabb.

Donovan Mcnabb. Never one a super bowl, but was definitely good... He was my favorite player back when I was younger.

Donovan was good a few years ago. I only started caring for football recently, and only know about 3 (Russel, Vick - ugh, and Donvan McNabb).

He certainly could be viewed that way if he has a few great seasons in Philly and wins a Super Bowl. Unless he leads the Eagles to a Super Bowl win (which McNabb never did, albeit with lesser weapons), Vick can't really be considered.

Statistically McNabb is better than Cunningham. If he has a couple of good years in Minnesota he'll solidify that lead.

Probably because aside from some flashy plays in Atlanta and 1 good season in Philly, he really hasn't been a good QB.

I know that... but the list of black quarterbacks is pretty short... so he sure can be in the discussion. If I remember correctly (and I was very young when Cunningham was playing), Cunningham was kind of like Vick in that he was an athletic specimen but not incredibly good. Cunningham's stats aren't even that good, and he's mentioned in this thread.

His stats are better than those of Vick. Vick just hasn't done it for a long enough time to be in the discussion IMO. I know some people don't value that factor as much as I do.

Not really.. Look at their stats and they are pretty similar. Cunningham's stats are slightly better, but Vick destroys him in rushing stats. Everything else is pretty similar, and Vick is just hitting his prime.

P.S... Randall only had one really good year, too. Their stats actually look remarkably similar.

They're similar, but Vick is still behind when it comes to just about everything but rushing stats. He probably won't last as long as Cunningham did. He'll get seriously hurt and/or do something stupid to get into trouble again. Randall also played in an era when QBs weren't as protected by the rules, and elite stats were harder to put up. I applaud Vick for his electrifying play last season. Now let's see him do it for a decade like McNabb did.

probably cunningham but michael vick completely revolutionized the position. his first few years he was unbelievable to watch just because he was such an athletic freak. i mean this run, is probably one of the best out of a QB ever http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=62vbpWj3zOU&feature=results_main&playnext=1&list=PL7583C2F54FE90444

Vick is probably the best pure athlete that has ever played at the QB position. He's a freak in terms of speed and agility.

Let's not forget how agile and fast McNabb was up until a couple of years ago-

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hJQlu_yw3kc&feature=related

I can't link that for some reason, but I'm sure you can figure it out.
