Im not liking it one bit.

People wearing masks everywhere.

Plexy glass barriers in a lot of places. Also a lot of the employees are wearing face masks and gloves.

Economy is shit.

38 million people are unemployed.

Colleges are closed.

All the shelves where the cheap food is are empty most of the time.

I personally had a bad winter mentally from being inside too much.

This is the new normal, at least until we have a vaccine.

It's also still only the beginning. Everyone is either still trying to slow this thing down, or merely moving to the next phase of the outbreak; i.e. copy South Korea. Even where I live, where we've reduced the daily new cases to single digits, mostly among quarantined returnees, the contact tracers are still working overtime to avert a second wave of infections, especially with the wet season looming.

Still a lot of work to be done. Still a rough road ahead. Patience and perseverance is required.

@Sevenizz: If Donald Trump was not a Democrat then he would not have handled this pandemic so horribly.

This is why we need to legalize drugs and prostitutes to get through these hard times.

we'll see in the next few weeks.

it's always difficult to gauge the veracity of news these days but from what's being widely reported in the uk, many american states are reopening with a view by many within to treat self distancing and preventative measures like mask wearing with disdain.

the rest of the world is grabbing their popcorn and waiting to see what happens. if in 3-4 weeks those states haven't been hit hard with new cases then it raises some interesting questions over the conventional wisdom re: the virus

Truly normal? I'd imagine after a successful vaccine is developed.

It is stressful but I try to manage to get through it. Hopefully I could get back working again, instead of relying on government assistance.

I'm still living like it's April. I don't mind the masks and other new norms. I hope we don't see a crazy spike in the next 2-4 weeks due to the lax attitude of the public.

Plenty of people like to act like everything went back to normal but ironically that means that it will probably take longer for things to really go back to normal.

Here in Australia, we've mostly got things under control, and we're starting to ease restrictions. There'll be more waves, but we're generally prepared for whatever might happen.

In the US, it sounds like many states are still in the early stages of the first wave. Things will get worse before they get better - but with enough social distancing and lockdowns, you might be able to turn things around.

It's really not up to us to decide. I'm gonna mask up as long as I need to and hope my income will stay in tact. I hope for the best and hoping these vaccines actually work when they roll around.

Life will never be normal until a vaccine is found and that will take at least 12 months.

I am fed up of queuing outside the supermarket and for the till.

If it's anything like the previous pandemic; Summer 2021 could be the earliest assuming there's a vaccine by then.

Definitely not for a good while now. Huge gatherings of daily protests every night. Its amazing considering the message we've received over the past few months.

Stay home. Stay away from people. Limit physical contact unless absolutely necessary.

Every news article, social media post, discussion online was covid related and breaking those rules was met with harsh criticism. Now? Complete turnaround and disregard for all those guidelines. Oh but wait, of course they're all wearing masks making it totally safe...

Depends on when there's a working vaccine and how quickly it becomes available. We're likely looking at late this year or early next year for a vaccine. Distribution will probably take a couple more months.

I don't think things will ever go back to normal as we knew it, might eventually get close to it, but there will still be more precautions and a lot of business closing up because of the government's mishandling of the pandemic.

There will never be a normal as long as this virus has no cure or vaccine. 2022 will probably be the first normal post virus year. 👾👾👾

People can go ahead and not like it as much as they want, but reopening things and having people go out more is only going to prolong this whole sorry ordeal. Of course it doesn't help when the POTUS is handling the situation with all the grace of a wrecking ball being operated by a drunk guy.

The last one lasted two or so years, so I imagine around 2021, early 2022; depending on when the vaccines arrive.

Once Trump wins reelection and the Dems just have to live with it for the next 4 years.

That's when things will go back to normal. :D

Considering Trump's approval, it's probably incorrect to state just the Dems would be dissapointed.

And hopefully going back to normal doesn't include Trump's current performance with how bad things are in America, if he does win. "Keep America Great Again" slogan was dropped for a reason.

No. Because once the election is over the closing of businesses and schools will be pointless. It can't be dragged out for four years. Doctors are already saying reopen the schools, but states like WA and CA aren't going to for what I suspect are largely political reasons. Shuttering businesses and stifling the economy causes economic hardship, which is usually taken out on the sitting president come election time. But ... if he wins again ... well, there's no real reason to continue making things hard on folks. At that point the blue states and cities can just go with what the doctors are advising.

Even if he loses ... watch how fast WA and CA go from "we must be locked down" to "well, things ain't looking so bad now, so we're opening up". This one is easy, all you have to do is wait and see if I'm right. Sure, maybe it drags out to January so Biden can shine if he wins. But if Biden loses, after November, the political games end ... and sure, the media will probably concoct some excuse or study to justify lifting restrictions to pacify those who didn't see this coming from five months away.
