When did you make the jump from normal tv to streaming?

Just curious how long everybody has been streaming for? I got a original Roku back in the fall of 2010 and started streaming Netflix and other apps. It was so amazing for the first couple of years going from edited television movies and commercials to having a huge library of movies and tv shows to watch with no commercials or edits. Now it's no big deal but back then it was a big jump going to streaming from normal tv.

I didn't get a Roku until 2011 but I'd been on antenna since a few years before that. I didn't watch enough TV to justify the cost of cable.

These days I still don't watch a lot of TV. But when I decide to at least it's on my own terms. I currently use Vudu to buy movies and subscribe to Netflix and Hulu (not Hulu Live). I've been using Pluto quite a bit too with the Beavis and Butthead marathons. Really interested to see what Viacom is going to do with it.

Also, 32 channels over the air on a pair of rabbit ears.

Back in 08 I guess really. That's when I started more with digital (not streaming) but still had tv. Then in 12 I stopped using the tv all together. I started streaming when Netflix first arrived here in Australia.

Only recently. Now that I've got a large enough monthly internet allowance - there's just no going back to free-to-air tv. Occasionally they show something decent, but the adds get real tiresome after a short while.

With streaming services you can pretty much just watch whatever you want - whenever you want.

I don't remember. But I haven't watched TV in over a decade. I prefer discs and disc rentals over both. Better quality and way more to choose from. I spend about as much time looking for stuff on Netflix as I do actually watching any of it. The selection is pitiful. If I gave five random titles, you'd be lucky to find one. Paying for five subscriptions, with some looking much worse than others, just sucks.

I agree the only reason I keep it is for a few Netflix shows I like but yeah the movie section is pretty bad. I can't tell you the number of times I been in a mood for a certain movie and it's not on it.

I haven't. I need a guarantee that I will have all the live sports events that I currently enjoy, that's non negotiable. Acceptable options like YouTube TV and Hulu aren't available in my area. For the foreseeable future I will be sticking to cable + Free streaming + *cough cough* other means.

I have access to Netflix but I can't deal with their bullshit of not showing in their interface the quality of the video I'm streaming. Not worth the hassle.

I leave streaming to people with no life.

Apart from gaming, I spend so little time in front of telly, that it aint worth even checking whats on offer outside normal, charge free tv reception.

But if you got no life and spend all your time staring at the screen and stuffing your face with fast food... well, who cares.

when I moved into my own place around 4 years ago I switched to streaming only.

just a Netflix subscription for most of it, which has been largely disappointing. they definitely have a 'quantity over quality' mentality for the most part. most of their original shows are pretty bad (with some notable exceptions). I can count of them to have pretty much none of the movies I ever feel like watching.

I got Crave TV more recently, so I could watch the final season of GoT, but have also been using it for Barry, Veep, Chernobyl and soon the Deadwood movie. might cancel the subscription after that since i've already seen most of the other shows on there i'm interested in. but it seems like it has a much stronger library of shows compared to Netflix. not sure if this service exists or is comparable outside Canada.

don't watch as much TV or movies anymore, if I have spare time at home I prefer to spend it gaming.

Never. Probably because back when I was in college (04-09) I became very attached to DVR. Streaming never became big deal to me because I just always preferred to use DVR. I watch maybe 3 to 4 hours of Netflix per month.

I stopped with linear TV more or less in 2006. Between 2003 and 2006 it was one or two shows I watched weekly. Streaming. Well got HBO a couple of years ago I think. Not a big user of it.

I haven’t and not really sure if I will. I have Netflix and watch it every now and then but cable TV is my regular go to for the vast majority of my viewing.

As long as you don't care about live sporting events outside PPV stuff, online is pretty good these days. I switched off more than a decade ago, but I've recently switched back in a sense because I now have Xfinity as part of my cable internet because it was the cheapest plan. I have an HDHomeRun tuner that I record TV onto a Plex server (homemade DVR) now, but mostly I use streaming services.

haven't fully gone the streaming route yet. dvr has been a great crutch to get past ads and having to worry about air times. been on the tivo train for ~15 years now. wife and i tried to cut the cable but there were some things, sporting events, some news shows, which either weren't available streaming or the streaming experience was shittier than having it DVR'd

Maybe 10 years ago..? Mainly watch stuff on what use to be called Kodi now it's Scrubs. Sometimes watch Netflix or Amazon.

Normal tv is sooooooo dull. With the exception of Sky Movies channel, although it can be repetitive and sometimes bland..

Haven't really watched TV in years, don't even own one but was only last year that I got myself a netflix account cause I wanted to see the new Star Trek series. Watched a few good shows and anime on their but haven't really touched it in a while. I guess I don't really watch a lot of stuff.

I think the first time I streamed something was probably 2008/2009. However it didn't really take off for me until I got the Netflix app for my PS3 which was in 2011. Being able to watch on my tv instead of a monitor made a big difference for me.

Haven't abandoned traditional completely though, I still use it for basketball.

I have an antennae, and between one or two of the 20 channels I have, I usually find some shows and movies I want to watch. For free TV I really can't complain. I would probably check out the main networks sometimes except I am not usually home when prime-time shows are on.

The one channel has a few 80's to early 2000's sitcoms I enjoy and those I can sit and watch at any time. They have on random movies from all decades way early in the morning then, and somehow all of those I've seen have unexpectedly held my interest.

I get streaming sometimes, but usually only subscribe for brief periods of time, like maybe 1 or 2 months tops, and usually to catch up on certain shows.

Around the time Netflix streaming really started taking off. Haven't watched local in a very long. Years.
