I'm really sure you don't listen to 52000 songs. Anyways, I discovered lossless once I got my Zune and ripped a couple CDs. 64kbps is absolutely disgusting, though. You should get a medal of sorts if you can tolerate listening to music like that. Do you have high-end headphones?

52000 songs. I consider myself a pretty avid music listener, yet I have barely half of that in total plays. How long did it take you to build such a massive collection? In any case... yeah 64kpbs I'd never do that :P

well i had 42 000 once built up in 6 months. i downloaded illegally of course. than my net usage(evil australia) got put up but unfortunatly my ipod and my hd all got wiped on the same day :| so i had to rebuild completely. taken me 4 months now to build it up to 52 000 listened to most of them but still working my way... though i know all the bands so ill ever love or like the song. if i had unlimited internet itd take me about 1 week :P not a joke either.

Anything less than FLAC is a blasphemy to my system. I didn't build my speakers and amplifier from scratch so I could play MP3s through it.

FLAC is a really well-known format and made so people can listen to lossless audio, opposed to lossy mop3s. It has a "good damned reason" to exist

I know FLAC is some music term and I'm guessing it has something to do with the quality of it, but after that, I'm not sure. Someone care to explain?

Normal mp3s are at about 128kpbs. Normal FLACS are at about 1000kpbs. Now the bitrate isn't all there is to it, but that's the simplest way of illustrating why people use them.

So basically, you get better sounding music?

1000kbps? Awesome! How big are the files, and where can I DL them?

They must be compressed a bit, as I thought CDs were 1440kbps. Then again, if everyone just ripped straight WAV files they'd fill up their mp3 players with only a few albums, and FLAC probably wouldn't exist.

It's mostly the compression technique. Some you can get at 1440kpbs, but most available on the interwebz rest around 1000

Each one takes up a significant amount of space at about 300megabytes, for the stuff I download at least( I use WMAs though as Zune doesn't play FLAC, but they're roughly the same)

Hence the "lossless" in FLAC -- it's compressed, but without any appreciable effect on quality.

TC, you should probably see a psychiatrist about your severe masochism -- I'm sure 64Kbps is officially recognized by the UN as a crime against humanity.

Anyway, I started using WMA Lossless (more-or-less the same thing, but it comes standard with WMP/ZMP) about 2 years ago. Only problem is I can only shoehorn about 1000-1200 songs onto my 30GB Zune (which also means no room for movies).

I remember the day I made the decision to get the 80 over the 30, thinking I'd never use more than 30 but the features of the 80 were worth it. The day came about a month ago when I went over 30 gigs :P

I re-ripped my CDs over to FLAC some time last year I think. I use it for archive purposes though. The music I have on my PMP is in MP3.

I would have all my music as FLAC but it takes up so much space on my mp3 player so I just stick to 320 kbs
