Chocolate ice cream cake.
Well?
Paris-brest is pretty good. Choux pastry filled with a praline-cream.
But honestly I just love a nice, still-warm-from-oven croissant with some really good butter (maybe a bit of plum jam, too)
I don't really do cakes--more of a pie guy myself--but if I had to choose I'd say German Chocolate Cake. Gotta be heavy with that amazing coconut frosting, though.
Only eat cakes and pastries on occasions now, generally at cafes or restaurants, so it's usually something that matches well with coffee.
Right now, I'd go for something like carrot cake or cinnamon and honey cheesecake with orange zest. But I'll want something more chocolaty in autumn and winter as it gets colder out and the days get shorter - then it's brownies or or a rich chocolate cake with hot fudge sauce.
In terms of savoury pastry I like Spanakopita, pies, sausage rolls.
For cakes, cheesecake & Madeira cake. I don't really like dense/rich tasting cakes anymore. I like an even balance these days which I find that most of the time, the cakes I mentioned are quite light.
