Do you have a detective show you like you to watch. If so what's your fav detective show and why? Any particular episode?

-

I've been watching old shows on the likes of ITV4 through the years. During school breaks when I was younger I use to watch Quincy, where the gimmick was almost, always, an evil company doing some bad shit, and he's the only one who knows what they are up too. They make him a playboy character, even though he looks like a elderly person. It was average, but it had a memorable opening.

But generally, it seems Columbo when it's at it's peak truly is great Solid writing, and a great gimmick of seeing whodonit as the opening sequence, and Columbo pretending to be a clown when he's actually as sharp as a razor. It's a gimmick that never ceases to get old. Not all the episodes are on point, but by and large it's mix of humour, gimmicks and seriousness works in a lovely cocktail to fill a bored afternoon.

Make me a perfect murder is probably my favourite episode/tv-movie Watching Trish Van Devere squirm then desperately scramble to hide her murder weapon is more tense than the last 20 MCU movies. And then you learn Columbo knew all all along, Mah gawds.

I love detective shows! Some of my faves are The Bridge, Shetland, Death in Paradise and Granchester.

Columbo is absolutely the best detective show.

The Rockford Files is also an awesome show with a great lead actor.

You might like Monk, too. It's a more modern show, but in my opinion, not as good as the above two.

The biritish show "Midsmoer Murders" is awesome. Good story lines, charcters and just jas a cool "remote village" kind of vibe.

The pilot episode, "The Killing's at Badger's Drift", is a classic!

I watched some NYPD Blue back in the day, and I remember it being one of the better crime dramas on at the time. Rockford Files and Monk were pretty entertaining, also.

I know they're non-detective crime dramas, but I had a CSI phase a few years after it came out, and Burn Notice was fun sometimes. Criminal Minds explored things from another angle, yet. Most of them became formulaic after a while, though.

Always thought this was a spin-off to Hill Street Blues, apparently not.

Even has the same actor Dennis Franz.

Bergerac. John Nettles plays Jim Bergerac, another elderly playboy. Set on the island of Jersey, an Island owned by the UK despite being off the coast of France (greedy much, the UK).

Its so mild and relaxing with a great theme tune. The crimes are always threats to the tranquility of the island.

Just one more thing... Ian McShane in Lovejoy. East Anglia's answer to Michael Knight. An antiques dealer/amateur detective in the vain of Jessica Fletcher and her author/detective role..

Turns out I was an hour and 15 minutes into that Columbo episode already. Youtube has a long memory.

@uninspiredcup: Quincy is a throwback and a half! I haven't seen that in years. Jack Klugman was slick on that show.

I remember growing up watching episodes of Baretta and the original Magnum P.I.

@uninspiredcup: I've heard so much about Lovejoy; I remember they referenced the show and Ian McShane a few times on a couple of episodes of MST3K. Never seen it, though.

I honestly didn't expect someone to mention Midsummer Murders here.

Personally I enjoyed Stingers (australian show I think) when it aired years ago here.

I liked Moonlighting when I was a kid. Introduced us to a young Bruce Willis. I enjoyed Bruce's smart ass character.

I got into the Shield when I was home from work for 6 months back in 2007. More cop show than detective. Showed the dark side of police work and showed that cops are just as fallible as everyone else.

Those are the only 2 I can think of. Was never big on detective/cop shows.

Was Knight Rider a detective show? Michael Knight did roam the country solving crimes. If so, I gotta add Knight rider to the list.

1st season of True Detective, if it counts. And of course Homicide: Life on The Street.

Why? Cuz they're so good. Actually the True Detective ending is not all that exciting, but it's OK. The early episodes more than make up for it.

I don't know if Third Watch would qualify as a detective show it focused on firefighters, paramedics and cops the last few seasons of the series where pretty good. The first two seasons are bland but it picked up and got crazy which I love how over the top the show became.

I always remember the Hospital shoot out scene.

Joséphine Jobert is a very beautiful woman, and she did a great job playing DS Florence Cassell. How about her replacement though. ?

The show turnover rate is hilariously high, too bad Father Dougal will be leaving soon.

So, the second lady was replaced as well? Jesus, I can't think of another show with so many re-castings.

I am going to put Dexter here because, despite the unconventional nature, it was all about a man of the law (a crime scene guy, specifically blood spatter analyst) hunting down criminals. It was great until the last couple seasons, or until they made it more about his romantic interests; at that point, it wasn't about legit drama and suspense, but the stupid kind of drama *eyeroll*

Still, I enjoyed it for quite some time and it's still one of my favorite shows of all time.

Guilty pleasure would probably be NCIS; I really love the characters on the show, and it was one of the more better-acted basic cable shows I've seen in some time. It was fun, but was not afraid to get gritty and dark. And it had the whole package; showed the crime, showed the crime scene investigation, had some twists and turns, it had all the cliche roles (the nerd, the veteran, the rookie, the loose cannon, the nice guy, and so on). Just a fun, well-rounded show.

I don't usually watch these kinds of shows, closest thing to it I have watched in that genre is the Limitless TV series.

The show is pretty hilarious plus there are some surprisingly good mysteries in many of the episodes.

Mine is True Detective. Actually I really like detective and mystery films and TV shows. It's one of them. I have enjoyed many many movies of this genre from Apknite's MegahFilmesHD app. And my fav list goes on <3

Is The Americans a detective show? They showed a lot of FBI agents, so maybe. But they were more fodder for the Russian spies so I’m not sure.

Loved this show though. Suspense and intrigue were main factors of the show and you were always on the edge of your seat.

Oh yea, definitely a detective show.

Would like to rewatch it at some point, after about season 7-8-9 lost track, as did alot of folk I suspect. All I remember is "why is the Terminator guy here?".
