What's the most cash you've carried in your wallet? Do you have a limit on how much you carry?

I managed to get up to $1,040 in cash in my wallet a day or two ago after a few months of taking cash out of the ATM each check. Today I put $800 of that in my account, mostly into savings. I honestly just wanted to get up to a grand for the sheer novelty of it. I had $300 in 50 dollar bills and $740 in 20 dollar bills, My wallet was pretty fat LOL. I have $215 cash on me now, which I'm sure is already a crap load of money to have on you, let alone a stack. I didn't wanna hang on to all of that for long since I might lose my wallet or get it stolen. I didn't want to test my luck.

I did feel pretty damn rich though. XD

I try to carry $40 or less on a daily basis. The most I have carried around could be around like $2,000 or $3,000.

Around a grand at most, depending on timing and circumstances. The average amount I carry is anywhere from $50 to $200. If I'm someplace expensive or where I'm gambling then $200 would be on the low end. I don't really sweat it. I have a routine for my pocket contents where I'm acutely aware of them at all times.

I rarely ever use physical money.

There's been a few time where I've had a few hundred, but even carrying a $50 note would be considered a special circumstance.

The most I ever carry is 300 on the way from the bank, but that immediately goes towards rent. If I keep any cash on me, it's usually no more than 50.

Equivalent to about 900 USD is my limit. I do all my brick-and-mortar store with cash, after I read somewhere it helps you save. Considering I consistently spend less than I save in my personal savings account, I'd say it worked.

I don't carry physical money around. I do have a debit card, so technically I carried $20,000 around in my wallet.

Only counting personal money it is around 1200 $ I think. If taking into account the few times I had to go the bank for my old job... I am guessing 5 000$ or so is the most I've had.

I never understood why everyone doesn't like carrying cash in there own pockets. I like to look at my own money and not some Bank account but anyways, I like to divide my money on how much I'll keep in my bank account for purchasing online stuff maybe like $500 and in my wallet like around $1,500 in large cash bills.

Call me old school, but I like to look at my money in the palm of my hands.

  • Wallet- $1,500
  • Checking account-$500

I carry 5 euro in my wallet in case I decide to buy a drink or something to eat in a place that doesn't let me pay with card (if you search hard enough you can still find those). Think the most I ever had was 300 euro when one of my clients paid me in cash...she was weird :p

One time in my youth we took a trip in grade 8 to Quebec city with my school. My parents at the time said whatever I saved they'd give me to match. I managed to save $50 which was alot back in the 80s so they gave me $50 & I had $100 total. I was blown away at having two $50's in my pocket to walk around with.

Upon arriving in old Quebec city I reached into my pocket and one of the $50s fell out. Literally right off the bus... Some guy walking by picked it up and kept walking. I yelled at him to give it back. He said, "En Francais?" Meaning to speak in French. I told him to give me the $50 back, he repeated his "En Francais."

I was with 3 friends at the time. Unfortunately for this guy my friends and I were from the city in our particular area and we spent most of the time downtown either fending for ourselves & skateboarding. We weren't from the suburbs.

I saw a fist land on his face and he spun around and proceeded to get beat up by 4 grade 8 kids.

Was an interesting start to my Quebec city trip.

Oh after that I never carried around money. Lesson learned.

As a truck driver who travels to the US, I need to buy things for work, and for my own consumption, and I get a deal through work with the fuel card. I get US cash at $1.20 CAD for every USD (it saves me $10 for every $100 USD I take out).

I usually take out $100 each week I cross over and buy groceries for the week, plus have cash left over for other meals, or some other stuff I want to buy. I don't like carrying it around, especially in certain areas (muggings are common in certain truck stops) but have no other way to buy stuff (credit card companies gouge like mad).

Mosty I've ever carried was about 2 Grand and that was to help out a person to pay for their rent. But typically I have about 20 maybe 40 if I know I'll be out of town for a while. But yeah I carry about 20.

Never more than a couple hundred I think. I haven't carried cash for probably over half a decade now, it's an inconvenience.

Bought a caravan from a pikey, he only wanted cash. Ask me how safe I felt walking into a gypsy camp with €10000 cash in an envelope.

don't typically carry cash. on occasions when i need it its usually in the $20-60 range that I'll have in my pocket.

most I probably had on hand was ~3800 after I had sold my car and before I had deposited the money.

$8500 in $100 bills when I bought a car second-hand via craigslist and the guy wanted cash

I had to go to the bank 2 days in a row since they wouldn't let me take that much money out in one day

I felt pretty nervous walking around with that much money in my pocket I'll tell you that much.

normally I carry $40-60 in cash since its sometimes useful to have on hand

What's cash?

And damn, who are you people carrying around over a grand on a regular basis? I'm fairly certain that would get you mugged around where I live. Even if I only got mugged once in a long period of time, fifteen or twenty years, losing that amount of money would make me literally cry.

BTW, all of you people using that as a trick to keep yourselves from spending, you know you can just open an extra checking account and keep the cash you use for personal spending in that one, with your cash for expenses in the other, right?

Been so long since I've carried cash I couldn't begin to tell you. With the consumer protections on credit cards now, not sure why I'd want to carry around untraceable documents that offer no protection against theft.

Depends on what is going on that week. A few weeks ago I had about $5k in my wallet, but I had a mission. Mostly its a few hundred dollars (I spend a ton on lunch), and I keep the change and put it in the kids safes.

This varies heavily by country. In the US, the number of places that don't take cards in some form are few and few between, even for mobile business like stands and food trucks thanks to services like Square that can hook up to a cell phone. However it's also not uncommon for a business to require a minimum transaction fee for a credit card payment to offset the charge they have to pay to the bank. When I was in the UK, apparently all the cards there support Tap To Pay so every reader supported NFC payments and I was able to pay with my phone/watch pretty much everywhere I went.

Yeah, I wish everywhere had Tap to Pay. I've got a Samsung Gear S3 watch with Samsung Pay and Magnetic Secure Transmission. I wouldn't even need to carry a wallet.

I carried about 10 000 SEK once (about $1000). That was when I bought my first car. I'll never carry that much money again. I rarely have any cash on me these days.
