You know, like Brown or Colombia or Yale. I don't get why so many people kill themselves in high school just for a chance to get a seat (which isn't even guarenteed), to me its all just a name.
OT, what is so great about Ivy Leagues?

i saw somewhere i think on wikipedia that it's like 90% white and asian. I'm not assuming anything just pointing out what i saw
well a good school will help you get a good job, which will help you out in life so you're not busting your butt off in the back of a McDonalds the rest of your life...so i've been told >_>MichaeltheCMThing is... There are other of great schools out there too, which all avoid that fate too.
I guess for those people it's the prestige of being able to tell someone, "I studied at Harvard/Yale/Brown" etc. I don't think any one school out weighs another. Unless you're talking community colleges and vocational school (which can still be very good).

Prestige. Also being an Ivy League graduate is certainly not going to hold you back when it comes to getting a job.

I wouldn't say hundreds, but there are other good schools (UC Berkeley is probably the most well-known example). Unless you are going into like forestry or something like that, which (graduate) school you are from is huge.

In terms of faculty and some schools (Schools of Business, Econ, etc) maybe, but you can't deny that having an Ivy League school on your resume has some pull when it comes to getting a job.
There are many facets of an Ivy League school that make it so desirable, including: better job prospects, intelligent students, potential connections, undeniable resources, world-class professors, bragging rights, relatively good need based financial aid, and of course an overall high quality education. Many other schools have some of these features, but Ivy Leagues have it all.

I feel sorry for Mcdonalds lol, College counselors always use Mcd as an example if you do bad in school, you'll end up in Mcds and flip burgers all day long.
I go with this...As they say, "perception is reality".
Even if it's true that you can get just as good of an education somewhere else, just being able to say you went to an Ivy League school opens a lot of doors.

Better opportunities and bragging rights? You can certainly get a good job graduating from other universities, you don't need to go to such a prestigious one, but Ivy League schools may offer more or better resources for a higher chance of success (not to mention it looks good). If you can afford it and have the opportunity to then why not? If you can't it doesn't mean you won't be near as successful or anything though.
To say nothing of the complete over saturation of the law field, thanks almost singlehandedly to New York. Wanting to be a lawyer now is basically asking for a bunch of "Sorry, we have no openings" responses.Nothing. Unless you want to be a lawyer or something. But why would you want to be a lawyer? You go to hell anyway. Do what you love.

A lot of people in OT likes trolling and bashing other people, so I would assume it is natural for majority of OT-ers to you know, love themselves as a lawyer :PNothing. Unless you want to be a lawyer or something. But why would you want to be a lawyer? You go to hell anyway. Do what you love.

The quality of education really is better at Ivys. Plus, you get bragging rights and if you do it right, an upper edge in the job market, though I'm seriously starting to doubt that last part now.

"Hey sir, i would really like to work for you at this super awesome job. I went to school at Southwestern Kentucky State University".
"Hey sir, i would really like to work for you at this super awesome job. I went to school at Harvard".
Bonus points if you can pick which one sounds better.
[QUOTE="Shmiity"]To say nothing of the complete over saturation of the law field, thanks almost singlehandedly to New York. Wanting to be a lawyer now is basically asking for a bunch of "Sorry, we have no openings" responses. Yeah. Well, first of all: Undergraduate prestige has VERY little bearing on acceptance into law school. And the legal job market is supposed to rebound a decent amount next year, but it's definitely not the greatest idea to go to law school in this economy, unless you get a good scholarship or into a very good school. Anyways, "Ivy League" is largely semantics -- notable professors, low acceptance rates, lots of grads placed in grad school -- but nothing really makes the 8 Ivy League schools unique in comparison to a bunch of other ones.Nothing. Unless you want to be a lawyer or something. But why would you want to be a lawyer? You go to hell anyway. Do what you love.
