Whats so cool about Johnny Depp?

I've never understood why he's such a popular actor. I've seen a lot of his movies, even the older ones. I just don't see what makes people say "ZOMG its Johnny Depp we have to go watch his movie!1!"

I don't hate him or anything! I've just been curious about this for a while. So... anyone know?

I think people love him for his acting abilities and the characters he performed as are pretty memorable. Edward Scissorhands, Jack Sparrow, Raoul Duke and George Jung.

He's quirky and hot in that androgynous kind of way. Besides, he doesn't seem to chase the dollar and make films solely for the money - not that I think all his films are great mind you. He married Vanessa Paradis and had a little herb garden in France as well if I recall. I like a man with a herb garden.

He has a unique style of acting, which is actually acting as opposed to just reading lines with charisma, aka clowns like Nick Cage and Keanu Reeves.

He may be 47 and getting fat in his old age, but at least he can act! Just like Anthony Hopkins or Ben Kingsley, he gets better with age, yet he hardly looks over 35.
