Some movies will be getting a sequel, ignoring other movies in the franchise like they never existed (no refunds).

This is the case with the new Terminator, which is a direct sequel to Terminator 1&2, without the other movies, like Terminator 3 existing.

And this seems to be the plan for the new Robocop as well, serving as a follow up to the original Robocop, ignoring the two sequels and the reboot.

So what is a movie sequel that you wish never existed? And why?

Really? I thought the first sequel to Robocop wasn't bad...

I guess there are a couple of Alien films that are dispensable. Then there are more than a few Star Wars sequel/prequels that are just plain boring.

Suicide Squad. I mean, it wasn't the worst comic book movie out their, but it was a really rush film that never got it right, misleading the Joker will be the biggest thing in the film but it turn out it wasn't the case, and the pacing was all over the place. Suicide Squad getting a sequel now, it doesn't need it.

Warner bros seems to be going all in on the Marvel craze.

Yeah I wasn't a huge fan of Alien Resurrection. Though it had some good moments.

I also didn't like how Alien 3 killed of Newt and Hicks. Just all around movies that just don't follow up on the ending of the previous movie.

Although I want to nominate TLJ, I will abstain and instead choose Superman Returns instead. It was such a bore and a missed opportunity to reboot Supes.

Talking about superhero movies, Batman vs Superman, now there is a movie that should not exist!

Haha, I'm actually interested in the new Terminator movie. Though of course I wish Hollywood had some more original ideas instead of just leaning on the past:

Ghostbusters, Star Wars, Robocop, Terminator, ... Why can't we have another great original sci fi movie like this?

Terminator: Salvation was at least an interesting idea than rehashing 2 as 3 and Genisys did. Just more down to the quality of the movie and looking nothing like the future war shown in the first two movies.

It's baffling how much they missed the mark. Even just the color pallet of cool blue.

Nope, generic desert.

@uninspiredcup: I have to rewatch salvation one day.

I'm a big fan of the original 2 Terminator movies, because both of them were milestone movies. They both offered some really unique ideas to the whole terminator 'story'.

So with the new one I'm at least interested in how they could follow up on Terminator 2, or if it's just gonna be another Hollywood blockbuster with a lot of shooting and a lot of explosions.

Best thing about Bloodrayne is Michael Madsen's bland expression when he gets pierced by a sword:

Oh man, they really couldn't have gotten PR2 more wrong. The first one felt like those giant robots had existed from a physics standpoint and the fights we, it paired people together and gave them emotional connections (not loads, but enough), and it's overarching theme was about working together to overcome great adversity which was what helped resolve every part of the plot. The second had big robots that could be piloted by one person, looked dumb, the physics felt off, and a kid making a robot flip the bird to a dead monster, and it was just boring.

The Matrix sequels are still enjoyable to me though.

George Lucas proved how much of a hack he was with the prequel trilogy. Not just 1 horrible movie but 3? lol. The Disney buyout was the final nail in the coffin.

Honestly I think saying the Highlander series having even one "good" film is a bit of a stretch. The series had one OK film with an amazing soundtrack and some great performances by great actors, but rewatching it today it's not a good film. Pretty awesome concept, though, and the film was a good enough representation of that idea to gain its cult following.

Plus Queen.

I hear ya. It was one of those films I had on VHS and watched a lot when I was a kid living in Europe with only one English channel.

I hadn't seen it 20ish years, and I decided to stream it. Not a big Queen fan, but they did a great job with the soundtrack. All I can remember thinking was how badly it had aged. I probably watched it mainly for the boobs lol.

I like Mystery Science Theater 3000, and their offshoot Rifftrax released a commentary track for Highlander so I rewatched it recently. I love that film, but man, it's not great. So low budget and cheesy, but it hit a nerve with it's concept and the time it was released that immortalized it. Nothing wrong with that, but it doesn't delude me into thinking that it's a better film than it actually was. It was cheesy as all hell.

Star Wars movies because the story is finished. I think 1-6 Episodes are enough for Star Wars.

Terminator for the same reason.

The Dark Tower... this movie was terrible! I don't want to see another garbage movie or series.

I always found it weird how Sean Connery (actually Scottish) was cast a Spanish person and how Christopher Lambert (French) was cast as the Scotsman.

I guess if you've lived for hundreds of years moving around the world the accents would make sense, but it has flashbacks where he's about as French as they come.

This is one series that definitely could benefit from a reboot. But they seem to be farting around alot.

I think most people do get what he was trying to do, and now a running meme, subvert expectations.

He just didn't do it particularly well.

@uninspiredcup:

No. There wasnt any of that "subverting expectation" nonsense. That is just people clinging to what they wanted the film to be or how they wanted the events to play out.

Rian Johnson reworked Lucas' original treatments for 7 through 9 into one film. Reworked because adjustments would have to be made based on what he was handed after episode 7.

I liked it more than The Force Awakens. Wrote a little piece on my blog after I rewatched it.

I watched The Last Jedi for the second time a week ago. I like it more than The Force Awakens for going against expectations while handling the theme of letting old things die and not letting ourselves be too sentimental, symbolized early in the film by Ren smashing the helmet that made him feel like Vader. It’s the opposite of what J.J. Abrams did with TFA, where he was too focused on nostalgia and keeping things the same, implying that little changed in a span of thirty years.

I like that Ren unshackled himself from Snoke and finally took charge. People complain that Rian Johnson wasted what Abrams was building with Snoke, but that would have just ended too much like Return of the Jedi, the bad guy playing a pawn again, and Snoke still served as a useful plot device in connecting the two main characters, Ren and Rey, before he was satisfyingly killed. I didn’t want Rey to be related to anybody. I’m grateful that she’s a nobody. I would have been pissed if she was a Skywalker, like everyone in the galaxy has to be related.

I liked Mark Hamill’s performance. Yeah, yeah, trying to kill his pupil in his sleep is unlike Luke, but it was a fleeting, momentary impulse. It was cool seeing him in battle one last time, fighting defensively, as is fitting for his character.

I also think it’s a better looking movie than The Force Awakens.

It doesn’t have as much of the dumb, misplaced humor, but it’s still there, unfortunately.

I know this is a short post. It’s not really a review, just some random thoughts I wanted to write down while still fresh, which is what this blog is about. The internet, especially YouTube, has already come to the consensus that the film is a disaster that ruined the new trilogy, but I think it has more going for it than The Force Awakens. Most of the problems I have with this movie can be blamed on the way Abrams and Disney set up the new trilogy. I really wish Abrams wasn’t directing Episode IX.

Sorry that upsets you, what with the passive-aggressive response, make a decent argument why it's not trying to be subversive i'll happily agree with you.

Just as a movie, it had alot of things I didn't care for, like the forced comedy. It was very poor.

@uninspiredcup:

It doesnt upset me. I simply stated what the people are analyzing. That is funny if someone were to try and pass that off as fact. Not passive aggressive at all. Dont be paranoid.

The Matrix.

No matter how amazing first movie was. its sequels suck so much that ruined its legacy. both reloaded and revolution were garbage.

Too convoluted for sure. The Matrix had a pretty unique, philosophical setting.

@R4gn4r0k: Spider-Man 3 - it sucks and I don't care what anybody says.

Amazing Spider-Man 2 - this ranks number one worst movie ever and my most hated movie of all time, worst than Garbage Pale Kids.

Rush Hour 3 - it sucks.

I know you said sequel but I also have some for prequels: The Hobbit movies, God these movies are so terrible, what happened to you Peter Jackson?

What's wrong with amazing Spider-Man 2? I loved Garfield as Spiderman honestly :P

Some people might be surprised by this but I say the seq of City of God. I thought City of Men was okay but didn't live up to the expectations of the classic "City of God"; Also Boondock Saints 2 ASD + Butterfly Effect 2. Ashton Kutcher's only good movie *shockingly* - was B.E. and shouldn't never been made into a sequel.
