It’s Cowboy Bebop, isn’t it? Where do you stand on this very important issue, OT?

It's very hard because it's subjective. Cowboy Bebop is right up there along with Full Metal Alchemist, Sailor Moon, Pokemon, One Piece, and Dragon Ball.

My greatest anime is Death Note, just because I bought the merchandise and manga back in the day.

Yes, its Cowboy Bebop for me. Only show I watched three times through all the way. Other honorable mentions for me are: Samurai Champloo, Black Lagoon, FMA Brotherhood, Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex, Baccano!, and One Punch Man (season 1 only).

Personally, I find so much anime to be childish crap. But these shows had little, if any, of that garbage in it. Much more fun and engaging to watch when the characters aren't squealing like little girls and doing the dumb anime tropes in the show.

Cowboy Bebop for me. Black Lagoon is the only thing that has come close, if only it had an actual ending.

For me it's probably Kuroko's Basketball. Lots of emotions, and distinctive personalities between the characters.

My favorite is Death Note. I was new into anime at the time and it blew me away. Others have come close like Gintama, Steins;Gate and Shouwa Genroku Rakugo Shinjuu (not many people seem to know it).

Cowboy Bebop, Samurai Champloo is also an easy recommendation if you loved Cowboy Bebop.

Big fan of the Ghost In the Shell everything, the first two movies, the Stand Alone Complex TV series and movie, the four 1-hour Arise episodes and its "New Movie" full length feature, and even the Netflix series SAC 2045 which just released its second season.

I’m going to have to say the original Gundam or Dragon Ball Z. The gundam series in general is good but I find each reincarnation is just a repeat of the original, even down to the character’s style and backstories.

Go with = Dragonball with the caveat that it peaked here.

Stuff after it up to Buu is good, it never really reached that same high-point again, and really, it felt like the end of the series which believe was the original intent.

Super can be fun, but mega dumb. Esp the anime version. Nowhere near the quality of DB/Z. Although did like the Broly movie, felt closer to Z quality with top-notch animation. For 30+ year old men who grew up on that shit, was a treat.

Mine also Cowboy Bebop. The episode Ganymede Elegy really stuck with me for a long time.

Other than that Neon Genesis Evangelion + End of Evangelion movie a must watch. Hunter x Hunter, Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood, Death Note, Ghost in The Shell Stand Alone Complex all amazing 2000's shows. Old school wise nothing tops DBZ and Yu Yu Hakusho personally.

I have too many favourites to name. As I briefly scanned across the above posts, I noticed primarily classics mentioned from the early to late 90's. If you haven't already, I'd definitely check out Trigun. Even the 2010 film was great in my opinion. But, I'd obviously recommend watching the series first.

It is very subjective because everyone has their own tastes and likes. Usually, the top 3 that seem to be on a lot of people's list are; Cowboy Bebop, Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood, and Neon Genesis Evangelion.

I don't watch enough anime to say which is the "greatest" but my favorite movie is Ninja Scroll and my favorite series is Neon Genesis Evangelion (even if it has still never gotten a decent ending imo.)

So hard to choose the best/goat, it's a toss up between GTO, Demon Slayer, Naruto, Spy x Family, Hunter x Hunter, Cowboy Bebop, Jojo and AoT.

Surprised no one mentioned this anime, it's the shits.

For me have bias towards DB, but this from start to end is consistently high quality.

@uninspiredcup: I've thought about giving it a go. I see there are a lot of episodes. Is it a really moving boxing drama? Or does the main character come across too much as a little twerp? If he does, I imagine the show eventually has him come into age and grow and mature to be a really good boxer. My issue with a lot of anime is when the main characters are so childish that I can't relate anymore. So I can't watch something like Pokemon for example because of Ash being a little baby (there are other reasons of course).

I like when the characters are more grown up and fleshed out properly. Cowboy Bebop and Samurai Champloo did it correctly. Monster is good as well with that main character.

@poe13: It technically has 3+ series as it's an extremely long-running Shōnen. They are part of the same story, but noticed the animation, music and quality differs slightly between them.

The first run (76) episodes of Fighting Spirits is undoubtably the best.

The main character (Ippo) certainty has good-boy-innocence syndrome. Which works against the other casts of characters, namely Mamoru Takamura.

It's humour is definitely Japanese. Woman. Tits. Big dongs. etc..

Loading Video...

If like stuff like Rocky, definitely enjoy it. For me it's an easy second to DB, but as mentioned, I have massive bias towards DB due to growing up on it. Quality wise, this is better. From start to end of those 76 episodes it has no slumps in quality.

@uninspiredcup: We'll see. Not too fond of what I've seen so far (clips here and there). It's a shame about anime because I feel like so much of it is targeted towards kids and young adults when I feel like stuff like Cowboy Bebop, Black Lagoon, Berserk, and a few others have more mature themes and feel more grown up in a sense. Perhaps anime overall for the most part is for the younger crowd anyway. I don't know.

I saw Vinland Saga hit Netflix with the dub finally so I think I will check that out as its more my speed.

To be honest, I think the depiction above (the character is 17) along with how the dudes act is typically more realistic than how a live-action Western show would depict them.

Male teenagers are generally horny, and assholes or act differently around woman. In the case of this show, everyone but Ippo comes from delinquent backgrounds. Which also tends to be true for many boxers.

Not sure if that equates as mature or immature, but certainly lends them a semblance of realism. That's the main running theme of the series, how the sport elevates them beyond what they think their lot in life is. Again, similar to Rocky. Goes without saying it's heavily influenced by it.

Not much of a anime fan but loved Naruto Shippuden
