Metallica aren't really the juggernauts they once were and tend to get negativity, some arguably justified (see Napster) but if you had to pick a single track, what would it be laddo?

Please note: This is not a "I hate Metallica thread", save that for another thread

Oh man Metallica is my favorite band ever. Just one song? Urgh I can't. I love their instrumentals. But also their other songs of course.

if you're asking me to pick just one...I can't.

To Live is to Die. 10 minutes of great musicians doing what they do best. Just heavy as hell, but beautiful.

Just about anything off Master of Puppets is great, but I am partial to Orion (another instrumental). First time I heard this song I was...under the influence of something *cough*, and it just blew my mind.

And of course Call of Ktulu is great as well

*sigh* BUT! if I had to pick JUST ONE SONG. I think I'd have to pick One. No pun intended.

The song is more or less a retelling of the anti-war novel Johnny Got His Gun by Dalton Trumbo. I read the book, freaking scary man. Then the song comes and you're like "Holy shit. Nothing has ever conveyed another's message so well".

Tough Call! Their first 4 albums are packed with stellar tunes.

I think I'll have to go with For Whom The Bell Tolls

I have to go with Nothing Else Matters. I know it's not as aggressive some of their other tracks, but I always liked that one for some reason.

I like songs like For Whom The Bell Tolls, Battery, Hit The Lights, Welcome Home (Sanitarium), Trapped Under Ice, etc. Don't really have a specific favorite song, but Ride The Lighting is my favorite album, though.

Master of Puppets. Goes through a lot of shifts in tone, but they all fit together well.

"Bleeding Me" from Load.

EDIT: A grossly misinterpreted and underappreciated album.

@foxhound_fox: There are some serious gems on Load (even Reload).

Outlaw Torn and Bleeding Me are up there as some of my all time fav.

Some of their less "aggressive" music is really good, big fan of Hero Of The Day.
