What exactly is the appeal of watching Bill Maher show?

The guy is a major douchebag, I've honestly never seen someone so full of himself...I'm pretty sure this guy keeps posters with his face on his walls.

Why do people even find him interesting?

I enjoy his show. I always fast-forward through the opening monologue, though. Guy isn't very funny. Usually just watch it for the debates.

I honestly find his panel discussions to be quite good. He usually has good, intelligent guests and their discussions are actually better than most on TV.

Anti-science morons hate him because he doesn't put up with their bullshit like other public commentators. That's why I like him.

I agree with him as far as religion is concerned but he is a complete ass and has some stupid views on other issues, like his anti-vaccine nonsense.

No, I dislike him because he is extremely egotistical and just a plain douchebag psycho with a bunch of crazy views like saying that he is worried to find that the name Mohammed is getting very popular in the UK because he is afraid the middle east will absorb the west.

Or how the big majority of soldiers in the US army are psychopaths who only enlist to kill something.

He even pulls arguments out of his ass, like one time he was debating with a Christian dude, he pulled the "Jesus and Horus parallels" argument (which is 100% fake, every piece of it, it's taken from poetry of an amateur, unrecognized egyptologist from the 18th century or something) ) and pretended it was real, dont even pull the "oh but religion is fake so there is no issue in debating it with fake info", because thats some pretty bad double standard there, if you think that what you are debating agaisnt is fake, then you should use real info to back your claims.

The guy doesn't even checks the info he talks about, he was given an award for being the most intellectual person of the year or something, by the Dawkins foundation, a militant atheist fundation which literally relates the spreading of atheism with intellectual superiority and the belief in a deity with stupidity.

How about not watching or paying attention to him? It works for me.

I watch the show every weekend, have for a couple of years now. Bill Maher is absolutely a douchebag, but he's not an idiot and that's largely the appeal of his show for me.

Real Time can spur thoughtful and poignant debate, it is very good political banter. His guests are usually intelligent and well informed as well (except when you have people like Ann Coulter on).

I actually really like his show. He has good guests and good discussions. He also bashes religion and homophobes a lot, which is great.

The same reason people watch O'Rielly. He says things for shock value and is loud.

What is the appeal in watching half of the trash that is on TV today? Yet millions of Americans do it everyday.

It only appeals to militant atheists and far left-wing socialists. I'm a Christian, I'm also a conservative Republican. So needless to say I'm not a fan of his show.

I have heard him say some funny things though, the man has such a gift of wit. It's too bad he doesn't recognize the one who gave him that gift.

I agree Maher is a DB but I love his show. Its one of the only shows that pits both sides against each other in a true forum. Any other show its either politicians going over talking points like on the Sunday morning shows or there might be a show were they imitate a debate by having a bunch of people from one side yell at a token liberal (for example Juan Williams).

Maher definitely seems like a cool guy, but he comes off as very condescending when addressing people with differing viewpoints. I'm very moderate but I usually find liberal media less condescending and frustrating to watch. Maher is an exception to this rule. I think he is unfairly lumped together with guys like Jon Stewart and Colbert, who are satirical yet open for rhetoric. He attempts satire, but is more Maddow/O'Reilly then he is Jon Stewart.

That being said, he is pretty funny sometimes and gets A+ guests.
