I believe it is about celebrating the birth of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
(Matthew 1:21) - "And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins."
Please note: This topic's purpose is evangelism; please keep the topic relating around Christian subjects - i.e. the Bible, and, of course, the question.
Thank you, and God bless,
Crushmaster.

Actually, a lot of people don't think its the true birthdate of Jesus Christ.

Even if it isn't, its still a celebration of the event.

I chose spending time with family. But personally... I just like all the fire sales and special deals that come after Christmas! :P

I voted for the second option. I personally am not religious anymore, but most of my family is, so that's why we celebrate Christmas. I see it as mostly a time to get together with family and friends to have a good time.

I suppose religiously it's to celebrate the birth of christ. But now it's mostly just a commercial holiday.

I'm a good deal different than Billy Graham. He's very Biblically unsound and liberal, if I recall correctly.

[QUOTE="tzar3"]The greed of having possessive materials. That is the meaning of Christmas.Crushmaster

Why do you think that?

Because my christmas as always been like that, giving, giving, giving and giving, I got showered with gifts, sometimes I was so consumed by greed I even teared open some presents when I wasn't suppose to. But now that I am older I could care less of materials, unless they benefit me in some way. Either way everyone loves gifts.

You're missing the point. In the end of all things, what does God care about in terms of salvation? Believing in Christ, and I think it's clearly obvious he does. And that's all that matters.

Yes, believing in Christ and repenting of your sins is all that is neccessary for salvation.

But your own statement disproves your earlier posts. If his beliefs and actions show anything it's that he's on fire for God.

For many, its hanging decorations and getting expensive presents. The holiday that is Christmas has nothing to do with Jesus. In fact, as someone else already mentioned, its a pagan holiday. December 25th is not Jesus's birthday. The bible doesn't even say when his birthday was, so to give a specific day of his birth is rubbish.

From a standpoint on what is the meaning of Christmas, I say it is about the birth of Christ that became from combining the story with the celebration of the Winter ?Solcasis?. Christian societies have adapted the Pagan holiday, to be a Holiday for Jesus. The nature of Christmas, though, can really incorporate anybody. Giving gifts are to represent what Christ did on the cross: he gave his life. But really anybody can celebrate it, because it has universal attributes, so the meaning might not be the same for everyone. Still I say "Christmas" is rooted in Christianity. Some might think of it as a day just to get stuff, but that really is the opposite of what the meaning is about (many have probably felt that way, which I'm guilty of.)

We celebrate the fact that Christ was born in this earth more than 2,000 years ago. It has lost much of its meaning, though, and a lot of people put their eyes in the wrong things, while others don't even like to say "Christmas" and prefer to say "Holidays" instead (wonder why, huh?). At a personal level, being with my family is the next more important thing. And if I get that delay pedal for my electric guitar... ~de arimasu :P

I believe it's meaning has changed over time. At first it was a pagan holiday, then the day of Jesus Christ's birth was manipulated to become December 25th, then with the advent of American consumerism it is now a month long spend fest. I just enjoy the whole month, spending time with family, and watching the kids open presents, but don't in any shape form or fashion believe it's the birth date of Jesus. Easter on the other hand is a different story.

Yeah, but perhaps Christians would have their own holiday while everyone can still celebrate December 25.
