What do you do when you stayed up till 6 am in the morning and have to get it back to normal the next day? What do you do to get your nights and days to normal? I still havent figured out how to adjust my days back to normal. If I cant go to sleep one night and stay up till daylight that will throw me off for weeks at a time. I think caffein makes me not want to go to sleep at night.

you have to stay up until the next night and then go to sleep like 1 or 2 hours earlier than normal.

Who's in charge of you? Is it you or is it your body? Do not fall into the trap of sleeping, even just a little bit, the next day untill bedtime. Force your body into the routine you want it to have.

Fact: lost sleep cannot not be taken back by sleeping more the next couple of days. Lost sleep is lost. It takes the body about 7 nights of normal sleep before all systems are back on track. Loss of sleep affects, but is not limited to; concentration span, effectiveness of the immune system, reaction time and more.

My sleep pattern has been messed up for years. I get about 3 hours of sleep a day until, and it's usually during the day like 12pm-3:00pm then I have college at 5pm and I have work after college 12am - 3am and from the time on I'm up doing Homework or what ever. On the days I don't have school I go to bed early and get around 8 hours of sleep, but then the next day I could be up for 24 hours before I get sleep again.

If you're talking about this study, it's talking about chronic sleep deprivation, not short-term sleep deprivation. Someone who doesn't get enough sleep just for one night can certainly correct that the next night; I think most anyone who has had this experience can attest to this fact.

Correcting it doesn't mean it's regained...

No. I majored in Phys Ed, sports science and physiology. The statement is from a paper regarding sleep loss and the effects it had on the immune system in particular. The conclusion was that lost sleep, one nights lost sleep, cannot not be corrected. This is related to the various "maintenance functions" our body goes through each night. Our internal clock is not limited to tell us when to wake up and whe to get tired, but also to the excretion of hormones and other chemicals at spesific times through the night. This cycle repeats itself every night. This fact is not about how we feel after trying to take back lost sleep. We may feel that everything is in order, but small and almost unnoticeable varations in the bodys chemical balance is not corrected in a short amount of time. It takes the average human about 7 nights of normal sleep before this balance is reestablished.

Such a negative outlook. I don't like to think of it as losing sleep...I like to think of it as gaining more life.

I've tried and tested, and found that getting my sleep pattern back to normal is not a problem. I just resist the urge to nap until I deem the time "normal" enough to go to sleep for real. If I get low on energy, I eat something incredibly sweet and sugary and bounce off the walls for a few hours.

Stay up the next day (don't take a nap) and go to bed at regular time or a couple hours earlier if you're really tired.

There Acually was this study done were if you ened to kinda stay up all day what you do is sleep for 20 min at a time 8 times in a 24 hour period but if you miss one it doesnt work. and you cant stay asleep either you need to wake right up after 20 min. You'll feel fully rested for the whole day and not suffer the next either

When that happens to me, I'll usually just stay up that entire day and go to bed at like 7 PM or something.

I'd take a nap when I get home, check out everything I need to check on the internet, eat something filling, then go back to bed. Might not help much, but it's a start...
