My surname ends in "ow", so although I've always been told that my grandfather was from Germany, I suspect that his ancestors may have come from Poland or Pomerania or thereabouts. Genetically, I probably have a bit of Polish in me, so I guess I'm obliged to have a positive view of Poland. :D

I'm guessing it's taken from the name 'Lech'. According to legend, three brothers founded three nations. Their names were Lech, Czech and Rus. No prizes for guessing which countries the other brothers founded.
Poland sucks. We have no roads. We have very few venues for big concerts. Console games are hella expensive. The polish people are racist and ignorant. Polish politics are on the level of two babies fighting over a toy in the sandbox. Our medical system is terrible. Corruption is everywhere. Polish TV is amazingly bad. Everything on tv has a voiceover where one person always male reads all the lines of all the characters in the same monotone voice. Polish people clap instead of laughing at a stand up comedy routine. Polish music is as good as the tv. Polish hip hop is hilarious. Poland is a "catholic" country so there are alot of devout (crazy) people. Thats my take on my country.

Well its a lot better than other countries, and those are just issues with any country that isnt fully developed yet. The economy is growing very fast and soon you wont have those problems, however for somebody to come out and admit their nation has downsides is also somebody who is a true patriot.
I went there with there on a history trip before the summer. We went to Krakow. There are some great tourist/historical sites around there (eg. Auschwirz/Birkenau and the Saltmines). One things that stood out though was the amount of carts selling those big, bread pretzel things. The food is pretty awful though. Me and my friends did find a pretty awesome music club/bar. Called the "Lizard King" and they had a great prog rock band playing the night we went :)

Oh god dont call me that. In Poland people have problems with what seeing the difference between patriotism and nationalism so that word is offensive to me.
