I loved the opening in the newest James Bond.

Snow in New York is always a cool setting too. I'm thinking Max Payne, but there are also movies with that setting.

A good winter movie I plan on watching on Christmas day is Joyeux Noël:

It's a movie about a truce in WW1, so deep. And a memorable moment in our history when French and German troops were playing football together, contrasting wars that are always about dehumanising your enemy.

@with_teeth26: The second film does, in Dulles International Airport in D.C. First one takes place in L.A., with no snow.

Runaway Train (1985)

Two escaped convicts board a speeding train as it barrels through the frozen Alaskan wilderness. The engineer suffers a fatal attack, which sends it toward an approaching storm with no way to stop it, and the prison's cruel warden is in pursuit in a helicopter right behind them. It has atmosphere, some solid action, and great performances by the cast.

Fun fact: The film was produced & released by Cannon Films, a studio known for making schlocky B-grade films; this was one of the few attempts the studio made in making a legit prestige film, and it worked. The movie had positive reviews and the actors John Voight & Eric Robert's were both nominated for Oscars for their roles.

For those interested, it's currently on HBO Max.

Not that it's a favorite because I just watched it for first time ever yesterday, but Fargo, never seen it.

  • The Thing
  • The Revenent
  • Snowpiercer
  • Winter's Bone
  • Dead Snow
  • Misery
  • Wind River
  • The Shining
  • Rare Exports
  • Dreamcatcher
  • Let the Right One In
  • Cliffhanger
  • 30 Days of Night
  • The Grey
  • Fargo
  • The Day After Tomorrow

Honorable mentions:

  • Avatar: The Last Airbender and Avatar: The Legend of Korra have a lot of scenes and stories that take place in the waterbending nation and that's basically nothing but ice and snow.
  • Various documentaries about expeditions to the north and south pole, climbing expeditions to Everest and other mountains, documentaries about animals that live in the cold. There's too many to list but they're always fun, always interesting to see how people and animals get by in such unforgiving weather.

Honourable mention to the ending of Blade Runner 2049; one of the most beautiful snowy scenes in film.

Home Alone 1/2, Santa Claus 1-3, A Christmas Story.. you know what lets just put Christmas Movies as an entire category for me... I love the holidays and the movies that come along with them although I hate the cold. Gremlins too.. but I think that qualifies as Christmas as well...

Next we have movies like Cool Runnings and Mighty Ducks 1-3 but not sure if those qualify.. lol.
