Generic thread idea I know, but just for fun which film would you give the nod to as the peak performance given by this list of versatile actors?

List of versatile actors, I know what you're thinking... Marlon Brando, Robert De Niro, Daniel Day-Lewis...

Nope!

You get:

1. Adam Sandler (acted in 57 films)

2. Vin Diesel (acted in 36 films)

3. Rob Schneider (acted in 48 films)

4. Nicolas Cage (acted in 93 films!!! And won an Oscar)

Okay, so they might not make your top 5 list any time soon, but they've appeared in over 200 films collectively. That's impressive, with Sandler and Cage in particular being among the most hardworking (AKA, take any role which comes your way) actors in Hollywood.

Are you willing to sift through their respective filmography to find a diamond in the rough OT? Perhaps one of their movies really stuck with you and you'd like to show it some love. Let me know your thoughts. :)

Here are my picks:

Adam Sandler - Easy one, Happy Gilmore. He was always best in comedies, and this is his most iconic role imo.

Vin Diesel - Yes he was pretty good in Saving Private Ryan, but I'm giving it to Boiler Room based on his acting performance in that film.

Rob Schneider - He's had a lot of crossover with Adam Sandler actually. While Deuce Bigalow was a leading role, I feel he was better in Judge Dredd.

Nicholas Cage - Yeah yeah, the obvious choice would his Oscar winner Leaving Last Vegas, but my vote goes to The Rock. Incidentally, one of the better Michael Bay films also.

1: Personal favourite is Big Daddy but Reign Over Me is a good example of what he was capable of.

2: Chronicles of Riddick

3: Don't know his movies.

4: Personal favourite: The Rock but Lord of War I'd say was his best.

Anyone who doesn't put Wicker Man for Nicholas Cage can go to Hell.

  1. Adam Sandler - Ugh, he's pretty much playing himself in most of his films, and he's only remotely funny in his early works. I guess I'll go with Happy Gilmore because he actually demonstrates some range when he acts sensitive with his grandmother.
  2. Vin Diesel - He *is* Richard B. Riddick. Most of his other "serious" roles play off varying amounts of Riddick. And that's not a bad thing.
  3. Rob Schneider - Yuck, I'm not even going to go there. I'd say his crowning achievement is the bellhop in Home Alone 2: Lost in New York opposite the ever-amazing Tim Curry.
  4. Nicolas Cage - One of my favourite movie stars. Don't know why, just love him. I'd say his best roles have been Lord of War or Face/Off.

1. Adam Sandler in Happy Gilmore.

Honorable mention: Punch Drunk Love, an oddly serious turn for him that's fairly OK. It's still funny, but intelligently funny. Kind of a cute rom-com.

2. Vin Diesel as Riddick (any of them, really). He is Riddick, like Hugh Jackman is Wolverine.

Honorable mention: Boiler Room. He actually demonstrates his acting chops in that.

3. Rob Schneider: his Adam Sandler cameos, and only his Adam Sandler cameos.

4. Nicolas Cage: well, if you guys haven't seen Mandy, you need to see Mandy.

Honorable mention: Raising Arizona

The BEEEES!

No but seriously, Cage is the only one that can act of those.

Cage was good in Matchstick Men and Wild at Heart.

He has a sweet pad down the road in Bath and turned on the Bath xmas lights a few years ago. Also Johnny Depp. Film stars like Bath. (Not Bath Spa).

[edit] Cage is good in everything.

1. Wedding Singer; Sandler demonstrated decent range in it even though Gilmore is my favorite film of his.

2. Pitch Black.

3. Don’t care for him, haven’t watched any of his movies. Don’t find him appealing in the slightest.

4. Adaptation. Cage contrasted against himself while playing two entirely different and polar personalities (introverted neurotic vs. extroverted) and pulling it off convincingly was quite a feat of acting. The dude can act, he’s just abysmal at choosing good work.
