I'm sort of a newbie to anime (I've liked DBZ all of my life but I've only just started getting into other ones) So far I have seen Naruto/Naruto Shippuden, Fairy Tail, Dragon Ball/Dragon Ball Z, Rurouni Kenshin, Yu Yu Hakusho, Death Note, Welcome to the NHK and Kaze no Stigma. What do you recommend?

If shingeki no kyojin aka attack on titan is the best anime you've ever seen then you seriously need to watch more anime. Even within its own genre there are far better animes out there. Claymore comes to mind and I suspect Berserk would count too.

The anime had potential I'll give it that but the execution turned out terrible and the pacing of this anime was just abysmal. It was enjoyable nevertheless but I was glad that it was finally over. The first few episodes get you so hyped and propel your expectations to the sky. Instead of delivering on these expectations or at least maintaining that initial momentum it fails miserably and progressively goes downhill. My guess is that the producers and the studio decided to drag this shit forever and milk the franchise to no end because it would be unfair to say that the anime itself doesn't possess value. Hopefully the next installment in the franchise would get it right though.

you definitely need to watch more anime. That anime is trash compared to the many other animes out there.

What's with these anime threads bringing out the worst in people? Someone makes an anime thread and all of a sudden it's all "Wow, your personal taste is shit!" kind of replies =P

Anime fans are very elitist. As are basically any fans for anything for that matter. If you say something is your favorite, then 99 times out of 100 someone is saying "Wow you really need to see/do/experience/ more if X is your favorite, because X is garbage"

Pretty much what Jolt said a lot of elitist and hipsters who for some strange reason snap whenever a popular anime is recommend. Attack on Titan was only good when many people didn't know about it basically.

Anyway... as far as recommendations for anime that is easy to watch legally(crunchyroll, funimation, hulu etc)

Hellsing Ultimate

Darker than Black

Deadman Wonderland

Monster

Bleach is solid until after the Soul Society Arc and then takes a nose dive

One Piece is still entertaining to this day for me but you got a llllllllllllllllllot of episodes to watch if you want that since you like DBZ you will probably like this

I started watching it again about a month ago, now I'm on episode 96 and taking a break from watching it. It does feel like it's taking forever that's for sure.

Yea it's up there, im sure there are plot summaries once it gets to the water 7 arc and beyond is when the show really shines but yeah even after that there are probably 300 more

@CountBleck12: Maybe it's doable then =P I always have this problem that once I start watching a show I watch it to the last episode. Watched Bleach from the first episode to the last and I still follow Naruto even after 12 years XD It's ending this year though, and then I'll be done with all the shows I started watching in 2002 XD

It sure is, I sort of have that problem as well. That's why I usually take breaks when it comes to these anime shows that have too many damn episodes. For Bleach, I stopped at episode 82 and it's been two months since I last watched it though I did hear that it goes downhill later on.

As for Naruto, I watched it back when it was on Cartoon Network and it had its moments here and there. I stopped watching Naruto Shippuden when Shikamaru, Ino, and Choji fought Asuma in the war (Asuma happens to be my most favorite character in the show along with Jiraiya) but things were going downhill after the Hidan and Kakuzu Arc. There's too many plot holes, one dimensional characters I don't care about, there were good characters that got killed off, the story has gotten very stupid, there has been ass pulls in which certain characters were suppose to die (Sasuke and Sakura are good examples) as well as Naruto gaining all these weird powers with no good explanation, character development has been tossed out the window, and I can go on. As for the ending of it, from what I heard from the latest chapters in the manga it's going to be a huge disappointment and I don't think the last movie is going to be any better either.

Such a shame, well at least Kishimoto's brother has written a better series than this.

@CountBleck12: I'm still enjoying it, especially the last 30 eps or so...the problem with the show is that since it needs to let the manga go for a bit so it can go back to the main story, they end up with a huge amount of filler episodes, and like you said, sometimes things happen with no good explanation and the "why" only comes up 50 episodes later in way of flashbacks. Also, if you're the kind of person who just skips filler eps, you end up losing a lot of explanations that way.

As for shows going downhill, that seems to be the case with most of them, unfortunately.

@poison_ivysaur: Whatever you check out, the subtitled is (almost) always better than the dubbed ( but I love the Fanning sisters Totoro). Bad voice acting ruins good shows.

I'm a die-hard One Piece fan (i'm practically obsessed) and I find it very hard to watch the anime. The manga itself is already slow paced and the anime takes it a step futher. It was okay for like the first 400 episodes or so.

I would recommend watching Hajime no Ippo. It's a boxing anime with fairly realistic but enjoyably exaggerated fights with a lot of humor. I would watch the first 76 episodes the two ovas and then stop. The manga has gone to crap and it drags on forever, and the anime is never going to catch up. The anime should have just stopped after the first season like how Berserk only did the golden age arc.

@Jolt_counter119: I actually started watching Hajime no Ippo (watched the first 10 episodes) in a time where I was in a sports anime kick together with about 5 or 6 other sport animes and then forgot about most of them and only stuck with Slam Dunk and Kuroko no Baske. Need to get back to it.

@Jolt_counter119: Since both the animes I mentioned are about basketball I've been watching one more than the other, so I started by Kuroko, but now I'm about 15 ep's in Slam Dunk...it's ok, but it has a fair share of goofy humour, which normally is not my thing unless in some shows that revolve around being goofy. So far it has not been over the top with it, so it's ok. The show is still on the "guy who has no idea what basketball is trains to at least make a basket" part so I can't really tell you if it's all that great, but I'll let you know as soon as I'm a few more episodes in.

lol, well it is japan. Even the people that know what Basketball is probably have a hard time making a basket. But in anime fashion the main character will probably excel and make it into the NBA somehow even though he isn't tall or strong enough. You ever watch Eyeshield 21?

If you are looking for just all around fun and exciting, Attack on Titan, Samurai Champloo, fullmetal alchemist/brotherhood, and berserk are all good choices in my opinion.

If you want something more psychological and slow, making you think a bit, I enjoyed Ergo Proxy, Mushishi, and Monster.
