I think I was back in high school. I used to try too hard for attention, and really had trouble with anything social. I tried to be someone I wasn't, and really projected a negative image of myself. What were you like back in school?

I've been socially awkward since the age of 14 due to being homeschooled.

I totally hated the partner or group project activities. So much anxiety at times.

I was actually popular. I think it was mostly the weirdness, I could go up to anyone and start a conversation about anything that's taboo.

Very much yes. Doing speeches in front of a whole damn class was always the worst for me.

For the first two and a half years, god yes. Much much less so from then on and I was pretty much accepted and liked (although a lot of people still didn't know me) by senior year.

I always considered myself socially awkward but people who know me tend to disagree. That is, with the exception of not always being intentionally social, my social awkwardness tends to have more positive consequences to conversation than negative.

I was extremely socially awkward in school.

Not at all in my middle school years. Was sort of the center of attention in those years. My H.S. years was the beginning of the end for me socially. Its effects are still bothering me today....

People also considered me a bit weird/a guy plotting to blow up the school since I could go an entire school day without uttering a word unless a teacher wants me to read or present something. And since a lot of people kept bothering me, many people figured it was a matter of time before I snap and go on a rampage...

Never exactly bother me too much. I was more worried about doing most of the work being paired up a few times with class clowns more than anything....

Everyone is socially awkward in high school.

yes. very much so.

when i first moved to Minnesota, i left my first girlfriend. was 15-16 at the time. and oh wow was i one whiny emo boy.

though i never dressed goth, or did the whole drab thing. I just stopped being social and closed myself off. huge mistake on my part.

am i still socially awkward? a little bit, but it's a little wierd. when it's a person of consequence i get awkward. when it's not i could give a $hit, and speak my mind.

Not really, or at least I don't think so. I don't feel awkward around my peers. I talk alot, crack jokes, etc. Although since I do talk a lot, some awkward things have come out of my mouth:P. So, who knows, maybe I am.

Yes, to say the least. In my defence, I was alone about 90% of the time during middle school onwards.

I've been a 'computer geek' since about 1984, when I started learning Basic on an Apple IIe. I was also already heavily into the sciences, so I was considered a mix of 'nerd' and 'geek', which made me a target of ridicule.

I've said on here before that I was bullied a lot until I started punching back in Junior High, and it's true. Junior High changed everything, though: when I went in, I had only a few friends and the popular kids picked on me relentlessly. When I left Junior High and went to High School, I had few friends and the popular kids were scared to even look at me crossways.

I was the kid people thought would end up killing someone at some point, because I would fight at the drop of a hat and I didn't quit until I was knocked out or pulled off.

By the time I left high school for college I had mellowed out quite a bit, gained some more friends and even had my share of girlfriends in the last few years.

So to answer the question: yes, at first, and then no.

Not really. I was a bit awkward my first year of high school, but I matured out of it later on. I became fairly popular later on.

Only at the start of high school. Growing up I moved around a lot, but I always got along well with my class mates. Usually was the class clown wherever I went.

But then my dads job landed me in this really rich southern town for high school. Pretty much everyone was a stuck up douche. Guys in duck head shorts with polos and doc martins would take their brand new cars and shovel mud on them to try to look like a true redneck because they were to pVssy to go mudding like a real redneck... and those were the cool guys. Yup.

So I wasnt really awkward or weird I suppose. Just very withdrawn. Which worked out though, cause the girls looked at me as the different guy that wasnt obnoxious and that certainly had its perks.

I guess by technical definition i would fit under awkward, but i wouldn't describe myself as it. I'm more in the lines of, i don't really enjoy social interactions, parties and the like, and i don't have the biggest needs or wants for things like girlfriends, lots of friends, coworker adoration, but when i do have to interact people really like me a lot and girls find me appealing.

I was a little. I had no friends and because I didn' t want to stand out I spent most breaks with a guy I didn' t really like. I was always trying to avoid attention and for the most part I was successful. Now having spent my teenage years without any friends I' m even more social awkward (still not the most serious case) and almost all social interactions (like going out and stuff) make me feel a little anxious. Thankfully I have made some good friends now in university so I' m going out more and getting used to hang out with other people.

Hah, I still am.

I was very much a loner, save for the odd friend. And I guess I was "weird" because I didn't talk much (I'm still pretty quiet though). Unless you get me started on something I'm interested in, or really boozed up. I can talk a bit then...

Celldrax

It's strange but the weird people are the ones I tended to be friends with more often. I'm lucky in the respect that while I'm definetly an odd individual I still had a lot of friends growing up which I have kept most to this day. I bet that if you grew up around where I live you'd have had a shot of joining our little crew.

Reminds me of a friend I once had. Although I only knew them in "last two years" but from the stories they told they seemed to be the the akward kind before I knew them.

I spent a lot of time doing stupid stuff that I often got in trouble for. In retrospect I realize that I acted the way I did to get attention, even though it was negative.
