Just booked my flight tickets from Montreal to Paris in early may(leaving on may 2nd and coming back on may 24th). Not too fond of Paris,so I'll probably spend 2-3 days at the end of the trip around.

The goal would be like 6 days per country(2-3 nights per major city) + time moving around.

Stops that I want to do

Ireland: Dublin and Belfast(taking the ferry to move to Scotland from there)

Scotland: Glasgow,Edhinburg

UK: Newcastle,Manchester,Liverpool,London and maybe Oxford and Birrmingham

And I'll be staying at Hi-Hostels with my backpack.

Just looking for tips in general about where(any other city I should look into?) or any activity\places to visit in particular(open to pretty much anything)?

Best way(and cheapest) way to move around?

Or if you have any websites to suggest to have a look into,it'd be great as well

Thanks.

tl;dr

I don't know how I feel about the UK.

What's so exciting about that country? I mean a lot of cool murderers come from London, but that's about it.

It has great history?

When in London, make sure to visit the British Museum, Camden Market, V&A museum is good, South Bank on the weekend is good - lots of street performers. Stay away from any restaurant near Leicester square or equally tourist trappy areas (good advice for any big city). Go to Brick Lane and get a curry! Tower of London is a bit meh and avoid Madam Tussads/The London Dungeon. Harrod's is worth a visit though as is Hyde Park (although not in the winter so much I guess). Damn, thinking about this, I'm missing living in London :-(. Memory's also quite fuzzy so sorry if the above was a bit generic!

Don't know that much about the rest of England but for Ireland, the Giant's Causeway and that general area really is worth a visit, it's quite beautiful. Also the bus tour in Belfast was probably the best I've ever been on - funny and incredibly informative - so no need to turn your nose up at it. To be honest, with Ireland I'd make sure I visit the west coast even if that means sacrificing Dublin time. Atlantic Coast Ireland is beautiful and so authentically Irish. Great seafood and cosy pubs with wonderful trad music.

As for Scotland...not had as much experience but Edinburgh >>>>> Glasgow.

Might as well just look at pictures instead of flying directly there.

Lucky bastard. I often contemplate the notion of freedom of movement and I kind of find myself unable to comprehend it. Hope you'll have a great time.

But don't you think fragmenting your vacation like this across multiple cities would erode enjoyability and devalue the whole experience? If I were you I'd carefully research each country and decide on a single city per country to spend a week in or so. Hell, I wouldn't even visit multiple countries at the same time. Instead, I'd visit one country at a time and experience the essence of the country in the most authentic and integral way.

I was supposed to visit much more initially(Belgium,Germany,Netherlands...) but I would have raced across each town and country, stopped to those 3,which is better. I'd love to explore deeper each place but I'd rather have a rather "short" time in each place to have a good idea and maybe come back later.

Visit the Phoenix Park while in Dublin. It's lovely but it's really big so you might get lost. If you take the red line on the Luas (the tram system) take care of your valuables as many undesirables go on it. Public transport is flawed but usable so you shouldn't need a car while Dublin.

Scotland isn't just Edinburgh and Glasgow, those are just cities, Scotland is a lot more than that. Be sure to have plenty of water proof clothing and warm clothing in general, Scotland tends to be bitterly cold most of the time

you can experience a nice tropical beach, you can't experience stuff that happened hundreds or thousands of years ago. I guess you could go around visiting castles, contemplating the lives of the men that died fighting over them, but still...

You could go to western Ireland to see more of an old-school rural version of Ireland, Dublin and Belfast are more city-type environments.

I live just outside of Newcastle and there is a lot to see and do in the area (as mentioned above). Just be careful if you decide to go out for drinks as it's very expensive and being in the wrong kind of establishment (anywhere in he Bigg Market) could land you in trouble as it can be rough as a badgers...
