Users ganging up on you cause of your opinion/views?

I mean people are going to agree or disagree on subjects it's going to happen I understand that. It just seems the ones who don't agree seem so narrow minded and think that their way of thinking is the correct way and go out of their way to make you look bad.

When did having a logical opinion or view on certain subjects/morals or other people's actions call for name calling while trying to assassinate someones character because that person says something you don't like.

Normally the person who starts the thread gives their story first.

Pretty sure those people feel the exact same way about those that severely disagree with their opinions and views aswell.

As for the name callings and whatnot, I suspect it's a result of feelings towards a certain subject getting very strong and possibly a lack of points from their side to supprt their views so instead they go into defense and lash out in an attempt to derail and stop the debate.

Which is why I don't really bother with trying to carry on a conversation in political or religious threads. You just end up with a lot of ignorant children insulting you. You just can't have an adult conversation here due to the children here. So I normally only talk about those subjects in real life with adults. Great way of avoiding the children.

Yeah tell me about it. It's why I don't post comments on Youtube anymore because I always got slammed with dumb ass comments by dumb ass people telling me I was wrong or wishing death on me because I opposed what they said then the whole comment section would become one sided which turned into a up hill battle against thousands of users.

Depends on the opinion. If someone is anti-gay marriage or racist or hates poor people I have no tolerance for those kinds of "opinions".

Ok, so my psychology professor is 60yr women who is a hippy doesn’t eat meat, big into the meditation thing, a former counsellor for DPD for rape, incest cases and so forth.

But anyways she discussing in class why people do the things they do. She said the reason child molesters rape children is because its what happened to the child molester as a child. Then a student brought up why people sell sex which lead to my previous post.

ok and? People sell sex, so what?

And then a student brought up strippers and pornstars, her response along with her information to backup what she was saying is that people who sell themselves have suffered from some traumatic event in their life. An example she gave was rape victims she counselled blamed themselves for the rape and turned to selling themselves because they felt guilty.

Also what she said was that pornstars and strippers crave attention which from female or males but mostly male because either their parents didn't pay enough attention to them as they where growing. This also relates to celebrities as well

So that saying they have daddies issues holds true

Ok, but who was "ganging" up on who? Like, did a lot of students called bs on the teacher's reasoning or did a student brought up an alternative opinion and the teacher/students ganged up on that student?

@MrGeezer: The lady has scientific proof along with case studies and experience in the psychology field along with her PhD to backup what she's saying you can't debate with them because they have their proof and correlations to their studies. I will say she does tend to go off into a rant sometimes

So you're the one being closed minded. Simply disagreeing with someone isn't attacking someone like you said in the OP.

Fact is that not every kiddy diddler is gonna be accompanied by evidence that THEY were abused as a kid. A lot of abuse goes unreported, dude. That means that even IF it happened, many times no one else knows it. Therefore, there's no basis for saying that that person diddles kids because he was himself a victim.

Same with porn stars. Psychological problems often go undiagnosed, therefore you can't just look at someone and say "well they're in porn, so they must have daddy issues." It might be true, or maybe they're just hard up for cash and that's the first job that came along.

Are there CORRELATIONS? Sure. But that correlation isn't 100%. Furthermore, she's not just talking about correlation, she's talking about a CAUSAL RELATIONSHIP. And no, you can't look at a correlation between A and B, and then use that to claim that every instance of A is caused by B. Especially when we're talking about human behavior, since people do things for different reasons.

Yea I had that happening to me on different occasions for showing what I believe to be some reasonable dissent from an established belief or stance on some issue. Of course they, the "too excited" [insolent] detractors, would resort to using the "you're opinion is shit, bigoted and intolerant" argument to justify it which I find it to be entirely false but most importantly defeating of the whole purpose of opinion or any attempt of a decent discussion.

I myself may be a little guilty of getting a tiny bit overly excited about a subject or an issue but I never resort to name calling and unwarranted hostility. I don't make it personal even when some make it so, except for the rare occasion when the other party makes it to the land of no return.

Just say you are a God fearing, Republican American who holds a concealed weapons permit and voted for Bush....they will tear you apart like piranhas!

I remember someone back then posted his beliefs that other people thought were stupid, when he posted another topic about something completely different (for example, movies) a few people posted in his topic saying, "LOL you're an idiot your views are dumb" even though that second thread was something not even related.

I don't care about Gamespot people ganging up on me, but half the time I've not read their replies anyway. I say my bit and it's the same old crap from them so no point reading it. I know it's bit like hit and run, but a lot of users are like broken records and i'll rather just stick a cardboard cut out of myself and let them rant on over that, what I said is still in text on the screen and there may be people who read what I say sometimes and think "yeah you know what, I think that to" although they might not respond on the site cause they can't be bothered with all the crap either.

So far the only time I've been concerned about being ganged up on was in Courchevel 1850, when the shaleigh working girls decided to bury me 2ft deep in snow.

Eh. I don't care if people disagree or not. It can make for good discussion actually....though some do get hurt feelings and spend the rest of their time trolling. But that is their personal problem....

I've been listening to Disintegration lately tho. I've actually come to like the record a lot better than I used to. I used to like Kiss Me Kiss Me Kiss Me better, but I think I prefer Disintegration now.

Disintegration is indeed a masterpiece. Love that album. Speaking of music....OT lacks music threads.:(

I didn't have any doubt you loved that album. A The Cure fan not liking Disintegration would be weird lol. :)

But yeah, it is a masterpiece. One of my favorite albums. It doesn't have the sort of eclectic fun feeling that Kiss Me Kiss Me Kiss Me does, but it's more beautiful and atmospheric and it's dark while still being accessible (unlike Pornography, which I find hard to get into). I particularly like Pictures of You, Lovesong, Plainsong, Lullaby, and Close Down. Really the only track I don't care for is Homesick.

Are their latest albums worth listening to?

Once you get past her antics, she has some great records. Ray of Light is one of the best pop albums ever. So atmospheric.

Nobody has to agree with anybody else. And sure it can get heated because it's the internet, but if you've said your piece and don't want to continue arguing about it or feverishly defending yourself as other people pick apart your every word, step back. Just don't reply.

Everyone is allowed to have an opinion and others may disagree with yours. That's fine. You don't have to argue on the internet about it if you don't want to. You CAN just say what you think and walk away.

Dumb people will be dumb, smart people will disagree with you, knowing nobody on this board can punch you in the face for what you say is going to allow people to be more hostile than they would be in the real world.
