Just want to remind everyone that 12,000-30,000 people died from Oct 2019 to Feb 1 2020...

...from the flu...

...in the US, a first-world country with excellent healthcare capable doctors and good facilities.

This is in addition to the 210,000+ hospitalizations; 10,000,000+ doctor visits; and 22,000,000+ illnesses.

Coronavirus might be bad, but I just wanted to provide some context :D

@horgen: I suppose you believe that the Chinese government is deliberately providing lower numbers than the actual?

Seeing how they tried to suppress news of it in the first place? Absolutely.

Yup.

Trying to suppress the news was the Chinese government first reaction to it...

Compared to the flu, yea it isn't as deadly. however, you'd need to provide to me the mortality rate of both. That would be a more meaningful statistic for comparison. The flue is highly contagious but might have a lower mortality rate.

That's a fair point. Ebola might only kill a few thousand people every year, but it kills 90% of whoever is infected.

Flu seems like it infects half the country each year but might only be lethal to a fraction of a percent of the people (who are likely sick, old, or young to begin with.
