So I have a 1080p at 40 something inches. But.. It doesn't have smart capabilities. So I was looking at smart TVs within my budget and they are 720p. I only have room for one TV. So which one do you think I should use? 1080p 40 something with no smart capabilities or a smart 720p at 32 inches?

Keep in mind that you can make any TV a smart TV with Roku or similar.

For example: The TCL TV's have Roku built in, but it's the shitty version not the nice version. The controls lag it's buggy.

I've heard people say that Samsung has nice built-in smart features, but those are pricey if you want a good display.

Personally if I'm going to buy a TV before micro-LED is available, I'd want it to be an OLED or something with full-array local dimming.

https://www.rtings.com/

is the best site I know of for TV reviews.

What do you want with smart tv functions?

I got a smart TV but only Netflix works reliably among the ones I have tested.

@horgen: It would be cool to watch UFC pay-per-view fights. ATM I have a subscription to Shudder (I watch on my tablet) and I want to get the Criterion Collection app. Oh yeah and it would be nice to play my tablet on the big screen. Forgot about that one.

I got an Amazon Firestick or whatever it's called and I love it. I reckon it has everything a smart TV would ever have, and then some. Plus the voice control is awesome, you can be like "rewind 20 second" and it does it, even changes input for you if someone left it on a different one.

I think it plugs into the HDMI port (if not that, then USB). Does your current TV have an HDMI port? Might not need to buy a new TV and instead get the 40-dollar-or-so FireTV thing.

You get get yourself a solid 4K smart TV for under $500, if not lower. I seen some on Amazon for about $230:

May not be a brand like Samsung or Sony, but a 4K TV with HDR for $230 isn't bad, especially if money is tight.

Don't get a smart TV. Get a bigger TV in your budget, one that can do 4k. Any TV can now be a smart TV thanks to Rokus, Chromecasts, and even game consoles.
