The top 10 Greatest Movie Performances Of All Time are:
1. Jack Nicholson (One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest)
2. Robert De Niro (Raging Bull)
3. Daniel Day-Lewis (There Will Be Blood)
4. Al Pacino (The Godfather, Part II)
5. Emily Watson (Breaking The Waves)
6. Marlon Brandon (On The Waterfront)
7. Denzel Washington (Malcolm X)
8. Jane Fonda (Klute)
9. Paul Newman (The Hustler)
10. Liam Neeson (Schindler's List)
Thoughts?

Also it should be noted that only one performance per actor was chosen to be included in this list. So yes you will only see one De Niro and one Pacino on this list.

My two main complaints are Naomi Watts in Mulholland Dr. being too low and Vincent Gallow in Buffalo '66 being waaaay too high.

So apparently everyone who has ever acted in a non-English language film sucks at acting.

Edit: Wait, finally found a foreign film. But still.

Robert Downey Jr from Iron Man was above Naomi Watts from Mulholland Drive? What the hell? I like Robert Downey Jr but come on. He was practically playing himself.

Also Hugh Jackman from X-Men over Takashi Shimura from Ikiru,

It's really tough for someone who only speaks English to judge the quality of acting in foreign films. Someone who speaks Japanese could say the acting in Kurosawa films isn't that good and his opinion would be more valid than yours.

Oh man, what a horrible list. I stopped reading as soon as Zach Galifianakis was put on the list, ahead of Charlie Chaplin, Jospeh Gordon Levitt in Mysterious Skin, and Eric Bana in Chopper. Though I guess I really should have stopped as soon as they placed Kristen Stewart on the list.

Mixed bag here. Some I agree with, some I strongly disagree with, and the ordering seems pretty random. I dislike the fact that this list largely snubs foreign actors.

Oh well, these lists never satisfy everybody.

That's ridiculous.

There's more to acting than just reciting lines. Good acting can break through language barriers and as long as you feel the emotion being conveyed then it is good.

Which is why foreign audiences will talk about how great of an actor John Wayne is while american audiences will talk about how he's not that good or he's overrated. You see where I'm getting at?

I saw this a few weeks ago. It's terrible.

Why the hell is James Cagney from White Heat below Kristen Stewart? I mean...what? I don't have the stomach to go through the rest of it again.

Everywhere I look John Wayne is praised even if I'm not a fan of his. Dude gets more praise than other far better actors from that time.

1) How the hell did Kristen Stewart make the list?

2) I agree, Watts should be higher on the list, she's amazing.

3) I feel like Sam Rockwell's performance in Moon is deserving of being higher on the list.

4) I can live with Nicholson as #1.

How is Quint in Jaws only at 199? Should be in the top 25 at the very least.

He's down at 23...

Honestly, lots of changing needed. This list has serious order issues and with some actors I think they chose the wrong roles.

I honestly think Pitt's best role was as Jeffrey Goines in 12 Monkeys. His acting was just phenominal in that movie. He played such a screwed up character so well not just with how he delivered lines but all his mannerisms and such. I can't believe he never seems to get credit for that role. He isn't even first billed for that role on IMDB....

Also:

-Ledger should be higher as the Joker. He played the character to perfection.

-Hanks in for Cast Away of all movies? Really? And he is kinda low for such a great actor.....

-No Robert Englund? The man is a fantastic actor and should be on there for his role as Freddie Kruger at least....

-No Bruce Cambell for Ash? His role in Evil Dead is iconic....

-Stallone at 17 for Rocky? Stallone should be alot lower and IDK about being in for Rocky either...

-Am I the only one who can't STAND Daniel Day Lewis? I think he is pretty awful TBH. God the man just acts intense/crazy and gets nominations left and right. I seriously see no depth to his acting and think he is just stupidly over the top....

-Christian Bale is WAY back behind alot of less-deserving people....

-Where is Min-Sik Choi? He EASILY deserves a close-to-top spot for either his role as Kyung-Chul in I Saw the Devil (One of the most twisted villains I have ever seen) or his role as Oh Dae-Su in Oldboy.

I guess no one can make everyone happy with a list like this, but yeah, those be my thoughts on it.

How is Seth Rogen not on that list? It was quite the impressive stretch for him to play stoner jew in Pinapple Express.

This, though I wish they hadn't put this list in order from 200-1. Their placement of performances is terrible, and they should include more than one performance by certain actors.

No way. Honestly I expected to see that but I swear the Dark Knight he was soooo overrated. Honestly it is my opinion had he not died before the film released there wouldnt be as much hype about that. Overrated IMO.

I'm not an expert, and i haven't seen all those movies, but i have to say, i'm agree with some of those choices, like Amy Adams, i always though her role as Gisselle was really charming, also Jackie Earle Haley in Watchmen was pretty good too and they even got Leslie Nielsen in there.

Anyway, of course nobody will ever agree with this list, but i can see why some of the choices were made.

I always wonder myself the same thing, but every time i see TDK (and i have seen it quite a few times) i get convinced over and over that he deserves every single praise he gets.

I'm somewhat shallow about film acting... in my opinion there are no "97% good actor, 98% good actor", you are either a good actor or a bad actor, in other words I expect the same acting quality from Robert de Niro and Tom Cruise. Now there is something which is wrong assigment of roles, like for example giving the role of The Terminator to Orlando Bloom, he would suck, not because Orlando is a bad actor, because he is a great actor, but because he simply doesn't fit the role. That's why I hated the Black Swan, because everyone would say all the f*cking time like "OMG NATALIE PORTMAN IS SUCH AN AMAZING ACTRESS SHE IS THE GREATEST ACTRESS TO EVER EXIST NO ONE ELSE WOULD HAVE FITTED THAT ROLE!" I mean come on, she is a good actress, but she is no different to every other good actress that it's out there, and no one will ever know how many other good actresses would have also fit the role "perfectly" because they obviously wont make the same movie again with a bunch of different actresses. I just hate it when someone says an actress is amazing because they liked the character they portrayed or the film they appeared on.
