None of them

Generation Jones (1960-1964, but often given 1955-1964) is separate from both Boomers and GenX. Those born 1955-1959 are Boomers imo, but 1960-1964 were definitely not. I was born in 1961. Tom Cruise, Johnny Depp, Brad Pitt, Keana Reeves, Barrack Obama etc. are not Boomers

We have been lumped erroneously in the past with Boomers (we were called shadow boomers) only because of birth rate, but now more often with Gen X (1961-1976, 1977-1981 are Xennials), not a snug fit either. The true Shadow Boomers are the 1955-1959 gang who were too young for Vietnam but remain part of the Baby Boomers because they still remember the turbulent 2nd half of the 1960's, including Robert Kennedy and MLK's assasinations in 1968. The 1960-1964 group is a whole seperate generation.

How it should be:

1927-1940 = Silent Generation (too young for WW2 and born before most of it, this unfortunate group were mostly born in the Great Depression in the U.S.), 14 years

1941-1945 = Rock and Roll Generation (WW2 Babies, these guys invented Youth Culture in America and the concept of the "teenager". American Graffitti was their world as teens, these are kids brought up on first generation rock and roll like Chuck Berry, Buddy Holly, Elvis Presley.....John Lennon, Mccartney, Jagger, Keith Richards, Brian Wilson, Bob Dylan and haha Bernie Sanders were all born here, as were many more of the greatest 60's icons, rising birth rate) 5 years, links Silent to Boomers

1946-1959 = Baby Boomers (post-WW2 babies, Vietnam vets, Woodstock generation, social change, BIG birthrate, kids of mostly Greatest Generation, but some with Silent Generation), 14 years

1960-1964 = Generation Jones (punk-rock generation, "That 70's show" and "Freaks and Geeks" was about them, start of 2 income household, original Star Wars, PC, and videogame generation ie Pong, BIG birthrate, kids of Silent Generation), 5 years, links Boomers with X

1965-1976 = Generation X (latch-key kids, MTV [shared with Jones] generation, NES and SNES, Sega, lower birth rate), 12 years

1977-1981 = Xennials or Gen Catalano (grew up with Grunge, Tupac, My So-Called Life, MTV reality shows and all things 90's, "My So-Called Life" was a good representation of many of them) 5 years, links X with Millenials

1982-1995 = Millennials or Gen Y (what can I say, most of you, BIG birth rate) 14 years

1996-2000 = ? (not sure what you call these guys but they are tied to technology and aren't much aware of the impact of 9/11), 5 years, link Millenials with Gen Z

2001- 2014? = Gen Z (neck-deep in technology and social media, very diverse in many respects), 14 years?

The 5 year buffer generations are just as major as the 12 and 14 year generations, but they are generations of rapid change. For instance, with Generation Jones, we grew up initially with a Baby Boomer hippie mindset, but came of age with computers, rapid technology advancements and had to adjust to a Gen X-like reality with rising divorce rates and lack of jobs, so we changed somewhat. We are like half Boomer, half X, but not a neat fit to either. I imagine Xennials are similar to X and millenials but not a neat fit to those groups either. I get along equally with Boomers and Gen X and feel a kinship with Xennials generally.

Also, you are not likely to have kids from the same generation.

Well, this is all how I see things.

Well, that is how I see it.

Also, many of the 1982-1990 millenials were born to my generation (1960-1964) which had a high birth rate as well, whereas 1991-1995 millenials were sometimes born to us but more often born to Gen X (1965-1976) so the latter were often more tied in with tech savvy parents.

So, a difference in parenting. My generation was the first generation to buy personal computers en masse in the late 1970's, but they were not used in schools outside of some colleges when we came of age. But Gen X was using PC's in high schools I believe, so while we were the first of the young generations with hands on, X had more experience with them. Passed down to kids. We probably passed on more about living life in the natural world to our millenial kids in the 80's, while X probably passed along more living with computers to their millenial kids in the 90's

Millenial (1984)

I live with two generation Z's right now, it's weird. They don't remember 9/11 and they love Pokemon...

No judgement btw, was just an observation. Yeah my generation played Pokemon, but we didn't live and breathe Pokemon like Gen Z seems to.

Are millenials winning this Poll? I didn't answer because I don't agree with the boundaries given. Just curious.

@TheFlush:

I would say you are Xennial, in between X and Millenial, a little of both but not a perfect fit, about right? If you had older siblings you might be more X. You probably feel at home in the 1990's.

Well I caved in and voted Boomer, but again the 1960-1964 gang are not Boomers. That's an archaic definition based only on fertility rates and not culture and changes. This group has little connection to the late 40's Boomers in 'Nam and Woodstock. Apparently I'm the old man of the poll, you wouldn't know it to see me 😉

As I expected mostly Millennials, surprised also to see only one GenZ. This site must not be on the radar for younger generations, so it may go the way of the dinosaur before long.
