The White Stripes or Smashing Pumpkins?

This came to my mind today, and I really had no idea which band I preferred.

Which band do you like better? The White Stripes or Smashing Pumpkins?

The Pumpkins by literally hundreds of miles. I don't even feel going into the many reasons why.

White Stripes by a little. Some Pumpkins songs are good, but overall I like White Stripes better.

(OT) That being said, I prefer Red Hot Chili Peppers to both.

The White Stripes are a great band but don't come close to the Pumpkins. Gish? B-sides? Siamese Dream? Pisces Iscariot? Mellon Collie? Adore? Some songs form Machina? I can go on and on.

I'd say that they're about even. Both have about the same number of songs that I love.

Matter of opinion..Sonic Youth though was kick ass so I really cant argue with it.

I caught them in 92 - I think the musc scene had already changed by the time Siamese Dream popped out. Nirvana had thrust counter culture into mainstrream and you could argue the Pumkins road on their coat tails a little. From a cynical perspective Nirvana created a large ready made audience receptive to the then-altervative sound on the back of Nevermind, and then the re-hiring of Butch Vig for Siamese Dream helped the Pumpkins capitalise upon it.That's not to say they're not influential mind you....
