Its really starting to act up

GeoMagnetic storms heading to earth

"Geomagnetic storms are on a pathway to the Earth, with disruption of satellite-based systems and power grids likely, along with Northern Lights displays, following intense solar flare activity, according to the National Weather Service (NOAA).

Sunspot AR 1158 unleashed the first of three flares on Sunday, Feb. 13. There was an even bigger ejection on Monday, the biggest solar flare in more than four years. Coronal mass ejections (CMEs), or giant clouds of plasma, are likely to follow, causing geomagnetic storms that can knock out satellite-based systems and create aurora borealis displays."

It will make for a cool light show..unless it happens like THIS(Spoilers) Knowing ending

Hmm, my first thought was you need to be banned form the gene pool, But never mind  I too fear what the sun can do to the earth for all those sicency reasons I don't feel like going into at this point in time.

According to that the first CME will hit in just a few hours..so you dont have to wait long for the cleansing :P

You do realize that 12/21/2012 is only like 2 years away. Right now seems to be the right time for disasters to happen and it will only get worst. I on the other hand am building a ship for me and my family. If it doesn't work for us oh well that sucks.

The sun has been acting up for centuries and it will continue to do so until around 4.5 billion years when it explodes (so to speak) and destroys the majority of the solar system. There's really nothing to worry about as most of these effects won't take place until humans are long gone from the earth. I don't fear what the sun could do to the planet yet no, without it we would all die.

Usually the more I learn about the universe, the more it worries me. However, this does not. I've said this before and I'll say it again, Australia is the best place to be in any apocalyptic scenario.

no amount of benefit can outweigh the slight risk of getting skin cancer, that is why we need to either make a law against there being a sun or being out in the sun, or fine people who go out in the sun because they are raising the costs of our healthcare

And who's going to be dumb enough to arrest it when it refuses to comply to instructions. The sun isn't anthropomorphic.

Eh, solar flares hit their peak (when there are the most sunspots on the sun, hence more solar flares) every 11 years, and the last peak was in 2000. We should expect a decent number of solar flares this year.

Without the sun, we'd be dead

So yes!

Ban the sun!

It is a pretty amusing idea that we may be dead already we just don't know.. By a gamma ray burst that happened hundreds to thousands of years ago which is heading our way leading to the destruction of our ozone layer.
