Anyone ever wonder why the keybored is in QWERTYformat? i understand that it is kinda supposed to help you type better, but i dont know...if it was in ABC format it might be easyer. Any thoughts?

so typewriter salesmen can quickly demonstrate how easy it is to type the word "typewriter" using only the top row of letters
off topic. my roomtate in college had a dvorak layout and the key lables were worn off.. it was impossible to use :)

I just noticed that thanks!I like how it's called Dvorak simplified keyboard, yet is 100 times more complicated to use than a normal one.so typewriter salesmen can quickly demonstrate how easy it is to type the word "typewriter" using only the top row of letters

I think I heard somewhere that back in the day it was laid out in "ABC" format, but people were typing too fast for the the old fashioned type writers to keep up. So they changed it to "QWERTY" to slow them down. Commander-Gree
This is closest to the correct answer so far. It was really to spread out the commonly used letter pairs because when two letters next to each other were pressed at the same time it caused typebar crashes.

Actually, it was designed to prevent the mechanical jams of the typewriter arms while typing at speed. I checked Wikipedia, the history of the QWERTY.:)
The QWERTY keyboard has been around since the day of the typewriter.
Once upon a time, typists were able to type so fast that the letters in a typewriter would become jammed. After a while, people got sick and tired of fixing typewriters so they invented a layout that is intentionally made to force you to type slower. That was the beginning of the QWERTY keyboard. If you were to actually watch how you type, most of the typing is done on your left hand (because most people are right-handed) and other various things.
Get this and it wont matter, hehe. The entire keyboard is made of little LCD screens in the keys. You can switch between multiple layouts with the push of a button. KittenNipplesWho would pay $2400 for a keyboard?
Your all wrong :P
The original qwerty was invented for typewriters. If you typed to fast on them, they would mess up so the maker decided to arrange the keys in a format that made you type at a much slower speed. Thus qwerty is actually a very poor and slow format to type with. At least thats what I read...from a book :P
if you look close enough, making use of only the letters in the first row, you can scramble the letters a bit and write typewriter

that's incorrect. with typewriters, depressing a key causes a mechanical arm to move to place the letter on the page. when letters next to each other were depressed simultaneously, jams would occur. so they developed a letter set up that would result in fewer keys right next to each other being depressed consecutivelyHaha, neat.if you look close enough, making use of only the letters in the first row, you can scramble the letters a bit and write typewriter
