For those of you who have seen The Prestige, how do you think it compares to Nolan's other films and among films in general? For me, I cannot say it is the absolute best, because all of Nolan's films - the ones I've seen - are great, but I can say it is the most intelligent, thought-provoking, and mysterious of his films. The ending in which it is revealed that Borden and Fallon (Christian Bale) were identical twin brothers who each alternated as the aforementioned people blew me away. Now, whenever I watch the film, I wonder just which brother is in which scene and which brother is the father of the child whichever one of them had with Sarah. I like to identify each brother asThe One That Loved SarahandThe One That Loved Olivia. What I also wonder about is whether the original Robert Angier (Hugh Jackman) is the last to die or if it is a copy who is killed at the end of the film by Borden/ Fallon.

Very good film. His second best, but close to Memento.

I haven't seen Memento yet. I'll watch it sometime this week.
I am aware that it's about a man who suffers from short term memory loss and is trying to solve the mystery of his wife's death.
Its pretty good. One of his smaller films. A million times better than The Illusionist, which I saw on TV. I was surprised at just how poor that was given the people in it. Anyone seen that? What a dud!

I think it's really good movie, and it's definitely one of Nolan's underrated films. I haven't seen it in quite a while, but I remember really liking the escalating conflict between the two stage magicians. The one-upmanship, I imagine would be something that happened in real life, is really the most interesting part of the movie. Because it's that desire to defeat each other, to find out who is "the better man" that leads both of them to take such drastic and inhumane measures.

It also has a great cast, and this is pretty much the best movie Hugh Jackman has starred in.

It grew on me. I didn't like the Sci-Fi/Fantasy angle in the cloning at first. But I enjoyed the ride.

LIES! It's among his best! On another note, I just downloaded Memento onto my Galaxy Player S1. I'll watch it later.

Memento is my second favorite of Nolan's films, hope you enjoy it.

Have you seen Insomnia? The movie is really good, but it's the most conventional one he's directed so far. It stars Al Pacino, Robin Williams, and Hillary Swank.

I saw it so many years ago that I don't remember it enough to provide an opinion on it.

It was good, until it was revealed that you know, the cloning thing was actually real. Lost some points from the there. Still a well made movie though.

You would have preferred that the cloning not be real and be a mere trick?

The entire premise of the movie was that it was realistic for that era. The cloning was completely unbelievable, not only the person was cloned, but the clothes and everything else. HOW?

In my opinion, the setting of the movie was merely that, the setting. What the movie is really about are themes such as sacrifice, revenge, obsession, and love. It is for this reason that the science behind the cloning was never explained; it is unimportant. What matters is the theme that the cloning was used to convey, sacrifice. Robert Angier (Hugh Jackman) sacrificed himself repeatedly to experience the death that his wife experienced and to live his dream as the greatest magician there ever was.

The movie revolves around magic tricks and illusions while still being confined to reality and the technology of the era (as bobaban said). When it gets to the point where they're using actual, inexplicable science, that's certainly not possible, then yeah, I'm going to call bullsh*t.

It duplicates all matter. You can see this when Angier's hat is replicated many times, as well as the cat.

I saw The Prestige and The Illusionist in the same day. I loved The Illusionist. The Prestige was entertaining too, especially the Tesla bits. The second time I saw it I was incredibly bored, but that always happens with Nolan.

I'd say the book and the movie are equally good. Tesla's machine was more interesting in the movie.

In my opinion, it's tied with Memento for Christopher Nolan's best film. For me, it's the most rewatchable (I've seen it a bunch of times), while I haven't had any desire to see Inception or the Dark Knight trilogy since I caught them in theaters. Like you said OP, it's very thought-provoking (like Memento), and I can appreciate that a lot more than what Nolan accomplished with his other action movies.

P.S. The Illusionist is shlock compared to the Prestige! :P
