Shawn Spencer:

Shawn has Eidetic (photographic) memory and pretends to be a psychic (I think because he doesn't like real jobs where he has to work every day?). Although he is very immature and goofs off during serious situations, he regularly works for the Santa Barbara Police Department and easily solves cases that others would take years to solve. He is accompanied on cases by his good friend Gus

Adrian Monk

Like Shawn Spencer, Monk is able to remember things in great detail (maybe even better than Shawn). However, he suffers from a severe case of OCD. Many of his phobias (312 total- including germs, crowds, dentists, milk, heights, elevators, planes, etc.) get in the way of solving the cases, but he does get over some of them over the course of the show. He is helped by his assistant/nurse Sharona who is later replaced by Natalie from seasons 3-8

I'd take Monk any day.

Monk usually knows who did it in the first half of every episode and the rest of it is just some kind of character crisis. Shawn needs the whole friggen episode. He's such a poser.
