Its really starting to bug me these days. How did all gamers get the image of either - Fat,scrawny, pale, anti-social geeks?? I know many people who play games, they aren't like that. I have no idea how that image was created.

it was created because a lot of gamers are indeed what you just described. Not all of them are, but all stereotypes are true to a certain degree.

But how do they become that way? how does playing games make them do that
you don't get tan sitting inside and playing WoW all day. A lot of gamers need correctional lenses because they're staring at a screen for hours on end. I know my eye sight is pathetic w/o glasses (or contacts when I'm out of the house)
[QUOTE="leonhead"][QUOTE="DrSponge"]Because the majority of us are that :|DrSponge
No but im just wondering how does playing games change you like that?
Because they stay indoors playing videogames all day :o
No gamer does that though :\ I'd love to do that sometimes when i get a new game but i just can't

Many gamers do that...

When you work in the office all day you don't get tan either, when you drive home from work you don't get a tan either. I agree with the glasses though

It's not the games that make the people like that but it's often a certain personality type that is drawn to video games. If someone is antisocial and lackluster in their athletic abilities then they often spend their spare time playing video games rather than going out and playing sports or hanging out with friends. I'm talking about people that spend all their time playing video games btw... There are other reasons why some may play video games of course but from what I've seen that is the case for the stereotype gamer (other reasons may include someone going into a fantasy world to get away from the troubles of life or for social reasons).

think back to the old-school days of gaming. Most, if not all, gamers were either little kids or "that cliche nerdy group" you described. That's really where it all started, and it's just stuck, even if the numbers are different nowadays
I am social, burnette, athletic and 100% gamer.
Those stereotypes are created because of a small group of gamers that are as described previously, however it is not majority. It is like saying that every anime fan is a skinny geek who stutters when sees a girl in front of him. Yes, they exist, but that is not majority.
I think it extends back to the early pc gaming days. Where for the most part if you knew how to use a computer, you were nerdy looking like that. Hence if you played pc games, you were a nerd. In-home gaming went a long time without the demographic it has now, and I think the image has just carried forward.ebbderelict
Ya, I agree.

Oh yea, i second that. I think most people get "anti-socail" mixed up with "non-conformist".
