...and then you smack yourself in the face.

Are you easily bothered by the embarrassing things you've done in the past? Maybe a stupid or unintentionally rude comment you made, or anything like that. Or, do you get over that stuff easily? It seems like people with anxiety have this issue more often than those without.

Personally, I fret like hell. I vividly remember and resent stupid things I've done as long as eight or so years ago. Cringe-inducing stuff. Like, for example, that time that I had a whiny breakdown here on OT.

Good times :P

I remember a particular incident like trying to dance on stage and falling on stage before college crowd during freshers party. Everyone started laughing, specially the girls. It was most embarrassing and i still cringe why i made a fool of myself back then.

But I've done it so often and so much
I just don't care

@Kevlar101: Constantly... and from stuff a lot longer than 8 years ago too. I can't seem to let go.

Same. There's things in elementary and middle school that still kinda make me cringe...I'm 22. O_O

That must have been really embarassing indeed especially if you suffer from low self-esteem. But I'm sure nobody even remembers it anymore. I've never ever danced in public, perhaps for the better. :P

I usually just rationalize it by recognizing that I was young and stupid. Hell I'm still young and stupid I just recognize that I happen to be wiser now than I once was.

I think there was only 1 cringe-worthy moment in my life, but I was the only one who cared anyway so no biggie in the greater picture but I was still quite pissed off at myself.

@gamerguru100: Sure. I used to do martial arts, specifically TaeKwonDo and one year my sah bum nim (master) had the great idea to have us practice a different style of TKD and enter us in a competition; this was fine by me but the problem is that the competition was a 3-man poomse (like karate's kata) and since I was the national champion at that time he saw fit to have me babysit a guy and his kid who were always slacking during training in hopes they would do better. So I worked my ass off with them and after a month or so the father was doing ok but the kid couldn't be assed to put any effort in.

The day of the competition I was quite nervous because I got the whole "you're the champion, so your group has to do well" talk. When the time came I was doing everything while not taking my eyes off the kid, certain that he was going to blew it (he had never done the whole thing through correctly once during practice)...I was so intent on him that I ended up messing up and we got last place...the kid did fine.

I was really really embarrassed for messing up in front of thousands of people, and not only was that the only competition I didn't win but to be in last place...

@dylandr: Unfortunately I believe that was the last tournament I was part of since a couple months later I had to stop doing martial arts because I had too much on my plate.

I ca haunt myself forever playing them over and over in my mind! Depends on the situation though as to if I can laugh at it eventually. I like self torture apparently.

When I was younger (19 to be exact) I really liked a girl, but she wouldn't date me because I wasn't extremely thin so I starved myself for months to lose a lot of weight.

I now want to kick my own ass for that.

i sometimes get that feeling when i reminisce the olden days of teenhood

i remember this girl asking me to dance at a school party, and everyone fancied this girl including me, and my response to her inquiry was to verbally offend her weight (called her fat, she was skinny), intelligence (called her dumb, she was bright) and general looks (called her ugly, she was hot)

she rightfully slapped me across the face, right infront of everybody, and i was like why tf did i say that for quite a while afterwards

man kids are fucking weird

Oh wow, hot girl asked me out...what do I do, what do I do?
Ok, calm down, you got this...just act cool...don't act like you're too interested, just be smooth and confident.

I haven't said anything for a while, now she's looking at me like I'm brain dead...which I kinda am at the moment....say something! Anything!

"Of course I don't want to go with you, you stupid, fat, ugly whore!"

Did I nail it? Is she impressed? Are we going to make the love now?

@korvus: i've come to realize that it was a sort of fight or flight mechanism kicking into effect, i was panicking

i didn't have the balls to dance with her, so i intuitively opted out utilizing something i knew would get me out of the situation immediately

i recommend this technique

I don't generally beat myself up over a stupid mistake. I just expect to have learned from, and do not repeat, said mistake.

As youths we use to get into fights, someone threw a piece of cinder block scaring the side of my head, wasn't any logical reasoning behind the fighting. It kinda seems to this day if you watch youths they just do antisocial things for no reason, I dono, must be your brain developing or some shite.
