Organized religion is, in many ways, fucked. We'd be a better off in many ways if everyone were agnostic...

The only positive I can really say about religion are those that perform charitable acts.

If only he would've been that quick to act for the freedom of this Christian woman...but then that would go against all he's said of that "peaceful religion" that he holds so dear to his heart.

That's probably true. Humans do love to bicker over their differences rather than unite over their commonalities.

Yes Islam is a particularly violent creed, however it's really anymore more violent than the other Abrahamic religions in that regard.

The only difference is that in recent times Muslims have been more faithful to the source material.

That's good. Technically the people who sentenced her to death would say that they didn't sentence her to death for her Christian faith. They would say that she was sentenced to death for apostasy because she allegedly left Islam to convert to Christianity (in reality her father was Muslim but he left the family when she was real young and she was raised by her mother who is Christian, thus she considers herself a Christian though Islamic law considers herself a Muslim because her father is Muslim) and to lashes for "adultery" because she married a Christian man (who is a U.S. citizen). Really though, for all intents and purposes she was persecuted for her Christian faith.

Nothing more amusing than seeing a religious person, particularly a theist, disparaging the foundational principles of another theistic religion. Its like shooting yourself in the foot.

Whether it sounds peaceful to you or not, at least we had the balls to preserve the religion as it is and we continue to do so to the extent of our ability. We did not feel the need of continuously watering down the faith to appeal to each and everyone out there, and we did not compromise the creed in order to bend it to our liking.

If your faith makes you feel ashamed or urges you to conform or coalesce, you can always renounce it, no one got a gun to your head. This is not the first time I was exposed to some of your views on Abrahamic faith in general, be it Christianity or Islam and I personally feel that you're quite burdened and divided against yourself regarding the matter. I may be wrong of course but consider this advice if you may: its not worth it to put yourself through this. You're either here or there therefore you can't have it both way. Unless you make up your mind on something you'll never get to reap its fruits or any possible fruits of its antithesis. Its just an advice and you may take it however you please.

He proposed another parable to them. 9 "The kingdom of heaven may be likened to a man who sowed good seed in his field. While everyone was asleep his enemy came and sowed weeds 10 all through the wheat, and then went off. When the crop grew and bore fruit, the weeds appeared as well. The slaves of the householder came to him and said, 'Master, did you not sow good seed in your field? Where have the weeds come from?'He answered, 'An enemy has done this.' His slaves said to him, 'Do you want us to go and pull them up?' He replied, 'No, if you pull up the weeds you might uproot the wheat along with them.Let them grow together until harvest; 11 then at harvest time I will say to the harvesters, "First collect the weeds and tie them in bundles for burning; but gather the wheat into my barn."'" - Matthew 13: 24-30

But when they persisted in asking Him, He straightened up, and said to them, "He who is without sin among you, let him be the first to throw a stone at her." - John 8:7

surely those who believe and those who are jews and the sabians and the christians whoever believes in God and the last day and does good-- they shall have no fear nor shall they grieve

surely those who believe, and those who are jews, and the christians, and the sabians, whoever believes in God and the last day and does good, they shall have their reward from their lord, and there is no fear for them, nor shall they grieve

certainly you will find the most violent of people in enmity for those who believe (to be) the jews and those who are polytheists, and you will certainly find the nearest in friendship to those who believe (to be) those who say: we are christians; this is because there are priests and monks among them and because they do not behave proudly

And those two phrases that you mentioned are about Jews and Christians of Arabia why the hell do people love generalization?

Dear lord you guys, a civilized society should not need to painstakingly quote verse to affirm some of the most basically understood principles of human rights, when you go down that path you're giving credence in their beliefs, and that's a source of conflict.

“America and Islam are not exclusive and need not be in competition. Instead, they overlap, and share common principles of justice and progress, tolerance and the dignity of all human beings.” - Barack Obama

"If your brother, the son of your mother, or your son or your daughter or the wife you embrace or your friend who is as your own soul entices you secretly, saying, ‘Let us go and serve other gods,’ which neither you nor your fathers have known, some of the gods of the peoples who are around you, whether near you or far off from you, from the one end of the earth to the other, you shall not yield to him or listen to him, nor shall your eye pity him, nor shall you spare him, nor shall you conceal him. But you shall kill him. Your hand shall be first against him to put him to death, and afterward the hand of all the people. You shall stone him to death with stones, because he sought to draw you away from the Lord your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery"

- Deuteronomy 13:6-11

"O you who believe! do not take for intimate friends from among others than your own people (meaning Muslims), they do not fall short of inflicting loss upon you; they love what distresses you; vehement hatred has already appeared from out of their mouths, and what their breasts conceal is greater still; indeed, We have made the communications clear to you, if you will understand."

- Qur'an (3:118)

"O you who believe! do not take the Jews and the Christians for friends; they are friends of each other; and whoever amongst you takes them for a friend, then surely he is one of them; surely Allah does not guide the unjust people."

-Qur'an (5:51)

(Sounds like a peaceful religion to me!)

Bullshit. The Haddiths are add ons....and are often more important than the Quran.

I just feel the need to point out that that's a quote from the old testament, not the new, which is no longer practiced by Christians, and is part of Hebrew canon.

except for when it's convenient.

What the hell are you talking about? Who said Hadiths are more important than Quran? Islam has always leaned toward mutual relationship between people of all faiths not just Judaism and Christianity. Jews and Christians of that era tried to make things harder for Muslims and a lot of Jews and Christians of this era follow the same path. I'm only reassured of the credibility of those two phrases now that I've seen your reactions. And as I stated above that command is only limited to a certain amount of time. I should check some books if I'm to be sure but I think those two phrases are about a period of time when those Christians and Jews (can't tell which one) had signed an agreement with Muslims but renounced it and went as far as helping the blasphemers of Mecca in their battles against Muslims. Certainly not your representatives if you concede.

I'd think Christianity sounds rather "peaceful".

The Bible does not sound "peaceful"...

On the violence scale:

Had to google the stupid phrase. Anyways how is trying to establish a good relationship between the three Abrahamic religions a bad thing?

Oh ok. Sorry. I had to take defensive stance because normally people who bash Islam are not simply telling their side of the story but are merely trying to say that Islam is evil. I see this is not the case here.

Evil comes from individuals....and generalizing groups because of that is wrong.
