So who here likes rap.

And for the people that dislike it, why do you dislike it.

Just curious.

*in before "retards attempting poetry"

I can't say I follow too closely (then again I don't follow any genre real closely these days), but like any genre there's good and there's bad.

I like pretty much any genre as long as it's good, its very rare for there to be a good rap song.

One of my favorite genres of music that has a very bad rep due to mainstream R&B wanna be crap that floods the radio.

How so? There are over 20 sub-genres of rap out there. 99.9% of what is on mainstream TV is basically one, or at most two sub-genres. The rest are out there. Search, brother.

No really. The last rap album i was totally floored by was illmatic which was released in 1994 before half of the people posting here were even alive. 99% of everything since then is AT BEST a solid hook with a good beat and ultimately forgettable in every way.

What can we do if on TV most of the times there's only like 1 or 2 sub-genres that get's aired?

That's why you would want to search for it. I mean.. if i were to want something, i'm gonna spread my hand and grab it. It's gonna fall in your hands. :P

Actually very little music released gets signifigant airplay, so stastically speaking the stuff you hear on radion/TV/etc is the rare stuff.

My first rap album ever bought was a european disk from one of my country's rap groups. Around '95.. i suck at recalling stuff from my past.

Anyway, i honestly can't add on that, since it would be a waste a time, since it's your experience and you're never gonna agree, but what i can do is say that 99% is stretching it toooooooo much, it's not even funny.

You're honestly going to tell me, with a damn straight face, that 99% of every rap album since the mid 90's 'till now was ultimately forgettable?

Maybe from around 2005-2010.. That i would agree with.

Some of it's good, some of it's bad. The vast majority of the mainstream western stuff is bad.

I'm not really a fan of rap. I can't really relate to what most rappers are singing about and I like there to be a greater emphasis on musicality than rap offers.

I love it. Used to be one of those "herp can't spell rap without crap derp" kids but then I actually gave it an honest listen instead of going by what I heard on the radio.

Rap being released today is horrible. All the good rap comes from the 90s. Tu Pac, Biggy,Wu Tang, Cypress Hill, 90s Snoop etc etc

I don't like a lot, I prefer like the 80's when they told a story like slick rick, I completely despise rap that uses the 'n' word constantely, which rules out 99% of it (which I've heard). Even the respectful ones often do it.

Rap today is crap, it really sucks. I find myself listening to 3 rappers as of now. J. Cole, Wale, and chamillionaire. I feel as todays rappers have no lyrical talent, rapping about drugs and sex gets really old.

Not a fan, but some of the older rap is pretty good. I actually like Busta Rhymes. Have a couple of his albums.

Not a style of music that I'm very familiar with. I'm aware that some very impressive examples exist but like any musical genre most of what you see on TV or hear on the radio is commercial garbage.
