I'm not sure if I'm the only one that notices this, but if you go to Google.com, it shows a message under the search bar that says, "Love the free and open Internet? Tell the world's governments to keep it that way."

So, the government trying to take over the Internet?

You don't? I'm on Google.com right now on my laptop and it still shows that message. I'm guessing the government is really going to take over the Internet, huh? That would suck if that happened.

Never mind, I see it now on Chrome but it still doesn't show up on Firefox.

Governments, corporations. They don't want you having dissident thoughts. So they block the easiest way to that.

Various governments, telecommunication companies and the like are basically behind closed doors deciding what to do about the internet. Presumably it's too unsafe and not profitable enough as it is. I know some countries already ceased their net neutrality but hopefully those that still have theirs keep it.

We don't want America becoming a police state... unless you think it already is one.

It's ironic it's coming from google because google was created by the CIA.

I guess the government is like a family though. They don't always agree on everything.

I think people are overreacting, there was the SOPA act a while back but that went no where. Other than that I don't really see the big deal, I have nothing to hide on my computer, I'm not doing anything wrong.

And they wouldn't have the power to take over the internet or read your emails or whatever, they would have to get some kind of warrent or something. Plausible cause basically.

Ultimately, most developed countries will have to amp up its cyber defense systems in case of a large scale cyber attack and it may include things found in SOPA and all the other internet bills. Cyber attacks will be a real issue in the future considering we use computers to run things like our power grid.
