Poll So about "Dune" will you watch it in Theaters/IMAX or streaming through HBO Max? (19 votes)

Watching Dune on the big screen in Theaters/IMAX 32%
Watch it at home through HBO Max 47%
Haven't decide yet 16%
Not interest in Dune 5%

The movie is out in the wild overseas as we speak and has been hearing great things about Dune, but here in the US, it doesn't release until Oct. 22nd. I have HBO Max but seeing it in theaters is totally recommend...especially in IMAX, so heading to theaters for me it is and hey, this is Dune we're talking about. Even Gamespot review gave it a 10/10! (Dune Review: The One You've Been Waiting For)

Just throwing this out, HBO Max has an offer for $7.49 per month for six months. (But with this deal, there is a great chance Dune part 2 will not get made)

This movie was engineered for the big screen.

I'll probably wind up watching on streaming; even prior to COVID, Dune was never something that was on my radar. I never read the books, and I know of the 1984 movie, but never watched it before.

Streaming for me. I mean they gave Deathloop a 10 so obviously that doesn't mean much nowadays.

Theaters! Or rather, I already have..definitely worth it, I'm thinking I might even go again. Not because I even love the film that much, I'd say its about an 8/8.5 at best, but just seeing those visuals on a big screen..that's the way to go.

This year has some notable movies I see will probably get some award season buzz, and Dune being one of them.

I'm looking forward to Edgar Wright's next, Last Night in Soho.

The next Wes Anderson, The French Dispatch is looking mighty crafty and confident. When will it be Wes Anderson's turn to win his Oscar?

A new Guillermo Del Toro icoming out, Nightmare Alley, this holiday.

A new Joaquin Phoenix film with A24, "C'mon, C'mon", looks interesting.

If you guys know any more movies that look promising let me know. I'll likely be going to the theaters again. Already did once with A Quiet Place Part II, so I'm pretty open to going back.

I set up a pretty decent home theater setup even before the pandemic. I'll stick with home streaming.

@hallenbeck77: Oh you’re missing out. The books (first three at least) are amazing. It’s very applicable to modern times.

Especially if you substitute some of the words, instead of reading, “spice,” read “crude oil,” try changing, “Fremen,” to “Muslims.”

There is a bit of a steep learning curve to reading Dune, lots of strange words but most copies have a glossary at the back.

Nope, watching is streaming at home.

Can't wait for it.

Same.

TBH I think the only reason those guys make a stink about the artistic integrity and blah blah blah about the theater is because they get more money from ticket sales than streaming. I am sure they do believe some of the nonsense they say, but I doubt it's the motivating factor.

It doesn't help that these people make a big fuss about it in the middle of the COVID pandemic, either.

Explain how please? People say this but they never explain why.

I guess if you're watching on IMAX that'd be cool for the sandworm closeups, the mouth would be "life sized", but I don't really understand how it can be made for the big screen specifically.

Only time I bought that argument was for Hateful Eight because Tarantino used this very specific type of film and he released it in theaters that supported the film's aspect ration.

Home, but mostly because my home theater is more enjoyable (better image, food, and seating quality, although my sound isn't as good yet) than my local theaters. I guess if I was near a quality IMAX that would be different.

Yeah it is my favorite series of all time.

The first 50 pages I find are the ones that tend to alienate people the most because you have this lore dump put on the reader with no context, but if you stick it out everything makes sense.

The series as a whole is excellent, I loved the Frank Herbert series. His son has, well...his son's style is a bit different, he essentially turned the series into gore-porn for lack of a better word, but at the same time Frank Herbert wrote the outlines for the newer books his son and Anderson wrote and if you like Dune you aren't going to turn down more Dune story :D

The Machine Crusade novels were fun to read, and the prequel books (House _ series) were OK.

I personally disagree with this mindset. A director, actors, game designer personal politics or opinions are of none of my concern and would never impact my usage of their product in any way. Unless they were a pedo or something.

The director of Dune is actually very good, I love all of his movies.

Dune is about grand scale and spectacular vistas. Why the hell would I want to initially watch that on a small screen??

Theatres were made for Dune. Hell or high water, I’m seeing it at the movies.

I’ll watch it through IMAX because it’s an experience for the senses. Streamers on the other hand will be looking for faults to be controversial with. It’s an art form which threatens corporate America. They just can’t stand to see so many nations genuinely excited for a grand epic that incorporates meaningful and poignant character development. Make no mistake: this is a unique blockbuster experience which closer resembles Indy film making more so than any Disney trash.

His opinion is that we should have no option to choose and increase our chances of Covid. That by default impacts the consumer use of product with potential health risks. Alongside deliberate stifling of inevitable progress.

All because he feels not validated enough. Personally feel that's not just disagreeable, but a straight-up shitty mindset.

From an economics standpoint, this is what can happen, and what changed the industry, when "le_artist" has complete freedom with other people's money.

At the end of the day, he's still working for someone else, using their resources. If the consumer finds it more desirable to consume from home, that's our choice, and the studios choice to go in that direction.

Well that's not how it currently works for most vaccines in most states, or stuff like seatbelts. It's the law. Also it's bit different for Covid, as it effects others too due to the capability to spread from you to others. Especially via Delta. So it's more than just personal responsibility, they're kind of assholes and put others at risk.

In fact if everyone had taken the vaccine, or at least 90%+, back in March a lot more places would be open by now and a lot less places would require masks. It would mostly all be over. They kinda' screw it up for all of us.

Might just have to boycott Dune
